From the Principal.....Tony White

According to a 2017 study, educators make on average 1,500 decisions in a day. It could be anything from the book they're going to use for an interactive read aloud...to enriching for a student who already has the skills being taught...to reaching a learner who is struggling to grasp what is being taught...to engaging children growing up in the YouTube era where videos last no longer than three to five minutes...to a classroom management decision on how to redirect a student that engages him or her in their learning while wholly respecting his or her dignity and place in the classroom...to how to respond to a parent E-Mail asking a thought-provoking question...to what time they're going to take a mask break...to the problems they're going to use in today's Number Talk. You get the idea. Our staff works hard. They have a lot on their plates, and when you add teaching these past 20 months in a pandemic (in-person and remotely!), they have also had to use structures and protocols that no classroom has ever used before.

The bottom line is that education has always been a challenging, rewarding profession; however, now more than ever before, more and more is being asked of educators. The crew here has never shied away from this call, and knowing everyone here as I do, I don't believe that will ever change. I am proud of each and every person that serves here at Norton Creek. Everyone here is working very hard to give our Eagles and community a school they can believe in - a school you can trust to give our kids meaningful learning experiences in a safe, caring environments. They are really good people doing really hard work. Last month was National Principals Appreciation Month. Do you believe that? A whole month? I don't need a whole month. I don't even want a day. I'm surrounded by excellence here at Norton Creek, and I wanted to take a moment to shout that fact and our team out.

If you are celebrating Diwali today and tomorrow, I wish you a Very Happy Diwali and look forward to joining you at The BAPS Temple tomorrow evening. If you are attending Fall Fest tomorrow, I will be at The Temple with many of our families, but know you will have a ton of fun out back here at Norton Creek. I want to thank Mrs. Doren, Mrs. Wanner, and Mrs. Coughlin for all of their amazing efforts pulling off this year's Fall Fest. Have a wonderful weekend, Norton Creek! There's more of a chill in the air, but there's plenty of fun to still be had in and outside. Go find it with your favorite people!

The current situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic has caused some families to experience a need related to job loss, medical bills, child care, etc. District 303 has several supports available for families through our schools.

We are currently reaching out to see if your family is in need of meal support for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please fill out the survey in the link below if your family has a need.

EARTH SAVERS Update! mjwesner@ymail.com

Pumpkin Composting: THIS Saturday, November 6, 2021 9AM-12:00PM

Norton Creek Families did you know that in 2015 Illinois declared pumpkin pie the state pie. And 85% of "processing" of pumpkin grown world-wide happens in Morton Grove, IL! These fun Halloween jack-o'-lanterns are full of nutrients that are great for our soil but often thrown in the trash, ultimately taking up space in landfills. Lets help Illinois be the leader in pumpkin composting and do something great for our environment. See the flyer below for information on a local drop off site for your pumpkins or click on the SCARCE link for DYI information on composting your own pumpkins at home. Thank you Norton Creek students and families for being Earth Savers!

EAGLES EAT OUT elisa.ignash@gmail.com

Save your cooking skills for Thanksgiving and grab some tasty Chipotle Wednesday, November 10 from 4:00 - 8:00PM!! See flyer below for code to order online, or show flyer when you order in person.

The PTO will host our next IN PERSON meeting Tuesday, November 9th @ 7PM in our LRC. We will also have a zoom call going at the same time as well. The link to that meeting is included in the Agenda.
