Willow Parent Bulletin #15

December 3, 2021

welcome back

We hope that your week off was fun-filled. Your wildcat has settled back in to the routine of school. Thank you to everyone who attended Parent-Teacher conferences last week. The turn out and collaboration regarding your child is so much appreciated.

December is a busy month for all. Teachers start really delving into new curriculum and it starts to become more challenging. You can see what will be covered by looking at the curriculum maps on the District's webpage. You can find them under "departments," and then "curriculum." These will give you a good sense of what's covered and the expectations at each level.

Please continue to check the District website and the communications from Dr. McAlister regarding Shield testing. We will continue to test our students every Thursday. You will be personally contacted should your child have a positive result or be a close contact.

We've decided to finish out the year with spirit week. You can find the description for each day below.

Big picture

book blurb: "Carter Reads the Newspaper"

Carter Reads the Newspaper, written by Deborah Hopkinson, is the story of Carter G. Woodson, the Founder of Black History Month. Carter G. Woodson was the first and only African-American with slaves for parents, to receive a doctorate in history from Harvard. He was challenged by a professor who commented that black people did not have a history. Carter remembered himself as a young boy reading the newspaper, learning about people of color and what their contributions to society were. He worked tirelessly spreading the word and established the first Black History Week in 1926. Today, it is now Black History Month, which is held month long in February. Both an eBook and hard copy version are available thru the Homewood Public Library.
