The Hoot Owl

*Make sure you have your car rider sign daily. If someone else is picking up your child, please make sure they have the car rider sign with them.

*Send your child with a water bottle daily. We have a touchless refillable station now so students can use the same water bottle all day.

*Lunches need to come to school with children daily. We will not be accepting drop offs in the front office at this time. If a child forgets his/her lunch, they will be allowed to purchase from the cafeteria.

*Car rider - remember that for both morning and afternoon car rider, parents will not be allowed to walk up to the front door. You must remain in the line and drop off at the door.

*Car rider afternoon - Please make sure you are entering the car rider line from Oak Ridge School Road (if traveling north on the feeder road). We will continue to block the right turn lane so you will be forced to turn left and find the end of the line.

*Due to Level 3 Covid, we are not currently accepting deliveries of things such as lunch and/or folders. If your child forgets his/her lunch, they will be able to buy in the cafeteria for that day. If you child forgets his/her folder, contact the teacher.

Daily attendance is very important. Whether your child is participating virtually or face to face, their learning is directly impacted by their attendance and participation in completing assignments. Please help your child grow academically this year by committing to being at school (face to face or virtually) every day and actively participating in learning.

Our tardy time is 8:01 a.m. for face to face students. We will start counting tardies on Monday, September 21. Please plan accordingly so that your child is in the building by 8:00 a.m.

Medication: If your child requires medication to be given at school, please call and schedule a time to sign it in with the nurse. Student’s are not allowed to transport medication to and from school. DO NOT SEND MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD. Remember, prescription and non-prescription medications must be properly labeled. Please review the policies and procedures in the student handbook.

Health Concerns: Please inform the school nurse and your child’s teacher of any severe allergies, surgeries, accidents or new health problems that may arise.

Illness: We encourage you to check your child’s temperature daily before sending them to school. Please keep your child home if they have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher or have any COVID-19 symptoms including: headache, sore throat, cough, runny nose, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, and diarrhea. Also, if they are running fever at home and you give fever reducing medications in the last 24 hrs do not send them to school.

**If you are called to get your child due to sickness, please have someone available to pick them up IMMEDIATELY. Please update your phone number and emergency contact numbers in the office so that we can reach you.

Please follow the health order regarding masks and face coverings where appropriate.

Please talk to your child and encourage them to:

-Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

-Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

-Avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.

-Cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

We are going to do everything we can to have a safe and healthy school year! If we can be of any help throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to call.

Stay well,

Nurse Sims

If your child is in need of school supplies, our counselor has an abundance of them. Please complete the request form on our school webpage at

If your child is back at school, please make sure that you have returned the laptop, Ipad, and/or hotspot you checked out. We need these back on campus for our students to be able to use.

If you are wanting to make a change of placement (from virtual to face to face or vice versa) for the second nine weeks, the district has set the notification date for Friday, September 25. In order to make this happen, we need to know as we could possibly need to restructure some of our grade levels and it might be that your child has to change teachers.

If you want to change placement, please email us at and let us know. We will make the change effective for start on Tuesday, October 13.

CISD Level 3: Students in grades 3-12 are required to wear face coverings in all areas, including classrooms, and when social distancing of at least 6 ft. is not possible. Students in grades PreK-2 are asked to wear face coverings. All students (PreK-12) will wear face coverings, as developmentally appropriate and feasible, on buses, during transitions, and in school common areas.

Joining our parent/teacher organization is a great way to get involved in helping keep our school great. Membership is $5 per family. This year, based upon guidelines, all of our PTO meetings will be held virtually via Zoom. We hope this provides an opportunity for more folks to become involved than in previous years.

We are excited to announce that we are in the process of getting an outdoor classroom for our students to use. PTO has graciously donated toward this venture and we are moving forward.

We are still in need of extra funds for benches, chairs, and tables for the students to use while outside. You can make a donation towards this venture on the PTO website under the "donate" button. If you know of businesses or individuals willing to support this venture, please reach out to them and point them towards our PTO.

Just a reminder that Free/Reduced lunch status must be applied for yearly. The sooner you apply will hopefully ensure no interruption. You can apply online at the following link If you need assistance, Virginia Vera, PEIMS/registrar, will be happy to assist you.
