Elmdale School
November Newsletter
Principal's Message
Students and staff have settled nicely into new routines this year and October was a month filled with learning. We are focusing a lot of our efforts on recovery of learning since some students fell behind during the school shutdown this spring. The good news is that we are seeing a lot of growth in our students already this fall and with some hard work we are confident that student learning will continue to grow this year.
Parental support is a big piece in the success of our learners. We can see when a child is reading at home regularly as their growth in reading happens quickly. Over the next month we are hoping to share some videos with families that share some strategies for successful home reading. These were put together over the past few years by our Literacy Support Teacher, Mrs. Pamela Reimer.
We are now entering another season of uncertainty as Level Orange looms close. Temporary Remote Learning is an option that will begin on November 12. This will be a challenging time as we try to balance remote learning for some and in-class learning for others. We ask for patience and understanding as we navigate this process.

Library
As policies and procedures have adjusted over the past few weeks we have now been given the green light to have students browse books in our library. Students sanitize their hands on their way into the library, and books are regularly cleaned. When a student signs out a book, that book is quarantined and sanitized before it is put back into circulation. We feel that these procedures allow us to protect our students while also giving them a chance to look for their own books.
For the younger grades suggested reading material will continue to be laid out on the tables. All students are also allowed to use the online sign-out system in Destiny Discover (instructions attached).
We look forward to seeing students continue to grow their love for reading.
Pick up & Drop Off
As the weather has been getting colder we are noticing more students are being dropped off at school in the morning and getting picked up in the afternoon. Below you will find a reminder of our drop off & pick up procedures. Please review them all, but we especially want to remind you of the following:
1. DO NOT enter the bus loop prior to 8:50 and 3:45. NO EXCEPTIONS!
2. DO NOT pass a bus that is dropping off or picking up children. This may result in your license plate being reported to the RCMP.
3. DO NOT park in the staff parking lot. Please stick to the family parking lot or wait until after 8:50 or 3:45 to drop off and pick up.
Staff will be monitoring the bus loop and having conversations with individuals as necessary.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our staff and students safe during the pick-up and drop off procedures. CLICK HERE for further details.
