WBMS Friday Notes
Sept 10-14
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
This week I saw so many interesting lessons like the one on decimals using a Moe’s menu complete with chips and salsa or another one on text structures using a crime scene (Who knew there were so many ways to organize an essay about a crime?). It makes me happy to know our teachers are working hard to find creative ways to engage our students in the learning process.
Additionally, this week our counselors hosted a new student breakfast where we welcomed close to 200 new to WBMS students. They have moved here from all over the world, many states, and different locations in Georgia. We are thrilled they are now part of our community!
Remember that on September 26th, we have Bingo on Wednesday right after school, which is always a TON of fun and a home soccer game on Friday evening. Our soccer team has been undefeated for years and is truly exciting to watch. I hope your student is able to attend one or both of these events.
As always, enjoy the weekend and please stay dry!

Here Comes The Bus App
Beginning September 17, Fulton County Schools will offer a free app called “Here Comes The Bus” that allows parents to track their student’s school bus. The app uses GPS technology to locate and track a school bus. Similar to ride-sharing apps, buses will show up as an icon on a map, and parents can follow its progress at the bus moves toward their child’s stop.
To sign up, parents need their child’s student ID number and the Fulton County Schools’ code – 87428. After completing a brief user profile, the app is ready to use. Multiple students in the same household can be put on the same account, and using their Launchpad login, students can download the app to their cell phones or other personal devices to view their bus status.
The app is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store or parents can visit www.herecomesthebus.com to sign up. More information, including FAQs and troubleshooting information, also is posted here: https://tinyurl.com/HCTBapp.

The Medical Minute: Hazards of juuling or vaping
HERSHEY, Pa. — Mango, mint, fruit medley — these flavors are delicious in a smoothie but dangerous when they introduce youth and young adults to nicotine. A 2009 federal law outlawed the use of flavorings other than menthol in cigarettes, but electronic cigarettes — or e-cigarettes — are unregulated and exploit the flavors to attract young consumers.
E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that allow users to inhale or “vape” into their lungs aerosolized liquid that contains nicotine, and many vaping devices also can be used to vaporize marijuana. These devices often look like pens, USB flash drives and other everyday items..
The term "juuling" comes from Juul, a company that markets e-cigarettes that look like USB devices and plug into a computer to charge. The e-liquid in vaping cartridges contains nicotine mixed with a base (usually propylene glycol) and may also include flavorings, colorings and other chemicals.
Dr. Shwetha Gurram, a family medicine physician with Penn State Health in State College, said teens are particularly attracted to “juuling” because of the device’s sleek design and fruity or perfume-like odor.
“This makes it easy to hide from adults because of the added flavors such as cool cucumber or crème brulee,” she said.
