A Message from Mrs. Robinson
Greetings Mooresville Middle School Families,
The month of November reminds us to be thankful. At Mooresville Middle School we are thankful for each of you. We appreciate the trust you have in us every single day.
This month I would like to take the time to explain benchmark testing at MMS. Every quarter students will complete a benchmark assessment in each of their four core classes (Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies). Seventh grade Science and all Social Studies assessments are created by the teachers at Mooresville Middle School. All Reading, Math, and eighth grade Science assessments are created by MGSD partner TE21. These assessments are 98% aligned to the NC EOG test. Teachers use student assessment results as a way to plan future remediation lessons and to reflect on successful teaching strategies.
If you are interested in seeing a day in the life of a MMS student please sign up for our next parent tour on Tuesday January 9 from 8am to 9am. You can reserve your spot by calling the front office. Our Instructional Coach and I will give you a tour of our school and you will have an opportunity to visit classrooms to see what goes on everyday at MMS from7:30am-2:21pm!
If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to give me a call.
Sincerely,
Ayana Robinson, Principal
Mooresville Middle School

Our students continue to work hard in class exploring new ways to solve everyday problems using math. Our next unit involves percents which plays a huge role in shopping. We encourage your children to take an active role when they are making purchases, calculating discounts, new sale prices, gratuity in restaurants etc. Thank you for your continued support.

Students have just finished their unit on solving equations. Next we will be utilizing our data about the pumpkins to begin our lessons on scatter plots. After Thanksgiving we will begin our unit on graphing linear equations. Students are also in the beginning of creating and sharing data trackers. Data trackers will allow students to break down their scores on assessments and homework allowing them to set goals for themselves.
Math 1
Students have just finished their unit on graphing linear equations. We will apply that to our next unit that involves solving systems of equations and inequalities. During this time we will also be introducing the Big Business Project.

Life Skills
7th grade Life Skills--we are working on our childcare unit and are studying all about what young children need and how as caregivers we can meet those needs safely and effectively!
World Language
Spanish students are coming down the home-stretch of their curriculum with only two topics left to study; the school day and free time activities. The final will be in early January so it is never too early to start studying and reviewing. Please encourage your child to stay focused in class and ask questions. After school tutoring is available with advance notice.
Exploring Language students are beginning their study of Spanish which is everyone's favorite language to learn about. They will also be studying about holidays around the world as the holiday season approaches.
Business Class
8th Grade Business classes are currently exploring all the different Business careers and the different business classes that are available at MHS. Last week our focus was Accounting. This week students are working on a product and the marketing steps to market their product.

The FBLA club has just opened the first MMS School Store. Each morning from 7:15 - 7:45 FBLA students will be running the store and offering basic school supplies for sale. For PBIS tickets, students can purchase free seat in the lunch room passes and skip the lunch line passes. The school store is off to a great start and we have lots of plans to add products.
On April 27 the FBLA club will be having a Career Day for all 8th grade students. We hope to have over 25 different careers represented. If you would be interested or willing to speak about your career please email sarahensler@mgsd.k12.nc.us.
We need lots of volunteers to make this a great event for our students!
