- Thursday – Winter Topper: Wear your favorite winter hat.
- Friday – Long Winter Nap: Prepare for winter break by wearing your favorite pajamas.
During the month of January, students in grades 1-5 will take the winter MAP assessments, along with other assessments. Please reach out to your child's teacher for specific test dates and information. Scores will be available to parents in ParentVue at the end of the testing windows.

Visual Arts News
In the Art classroom students K – 5 have been learning the difference between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art as well as the difference between realistic and abstract drawing styles. Students have been using the elements of art (line, space, shape, form, value, texture, and color) to draw different arctic animals. Students k – 5 will continue to work to turn their two-dimensional animal drawings into three-dimensional using 3D paper sculpture and clay techniques.
Thank you for all your tremendous support this school year and I wish you a happy holiday season and a joyous new year! Have a wonderful winter break!

Library Notes
Happy December, Roadrunners!
Thanks to a very successful Book Fair, we were able to purchase more Makerspace supplies for the library and students have been loving the new activities! (Check out our library’s Twitter account @RRD_Library to see what students have been creating!) Our next Book Fair will be in March! If you’re interested in volunteering your help (and receiving a 15% discount) please email Mrs. Redman at Lori.Redman@LCPS.org any time within the next few months. We would be grateful for your help!
This next month in library, students in Kindergarten will learn about Fiction and Nonfiction and begin to choose their books from the shelves. Students in First and Second Grade will continue to listen to the Virginia Readers’ Choice Award books. Students in Third Grade will learn more about online research for their animal adaptation project. Students in Fourth Grade will review Nonfiction Text Features and play Nonfiction Text Feature Bingo. And students in Fifth Grade will review and read the many different kinds of Nonfiction. It’ll be a busy month full of learning and fun!
I hope you all enjoy some relaxing time with your family during our Winter Break. As always… don’t forget to Read, Read, Read!!
Love, Mrs. Redman
News from the Gym
In the month of December during PE, students will be practicing their foot eye coordination skills during a unit of soccer, in which students will be practicing dribbling, trapping, passing, and shooting the soccer ball during various activities. Our soccer unit will coincide with the 2022 World Cup Soccer Tournament which will be taking place in Qatar until December 18th. Students during the final week of December before winter break will be engaged with different activities/games using a large parachute. Be sure to check out the physical education section on Rolling Ridge’s website, as it will be updated each month with a new fitness calendar, which will provide students with activities they can do at home to stay active.
