The Gator Gazette

Gator Greetings
Students are bringing their midterm reports home with them today for you to check on how they are doing with their grades and academics thus far during Quarter 3. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s midterm report. We do not have school this coming Monday, February 21 in honor of President’s Day, so enjoy the long weekend!
Next week when we return, we will be celebrating the ultimate Twos-Day on Tuesday, February 22, because it is 2/22/22. Students are encouraged to wear ties, tennis shoes, tie-dye, tutus, or dress like twins on Tuesday. We will be doing everything double on this mathematically unique day! Also, next week, we will have a culminating Black History Month Showcase on Friday afternoon during our Gator Gathering. Throughout the day, students will be highlighted sharing a variety of talents at arrival, dismissal, during lunch, and the Showcase. We have learned so much this month about Black History, so this will be a great way to end the month with a Gator Gathering celebration.
Don't forget to check out the new Chicago Style Pizza restaurant Lou Malnati’s, on Wednesday night and support Allisonville’s Dine to Donate for the month of February. We have Early Release on Thursday, February 24th for teacher professional development. Students will be released one hour earlier so parents should plan for them to arrive off of the bus early that afternoon. Car riders will begin to dismiss at 2:05pm.
Lastly, everyone is invited to come to school on Friday, February 25th at 6:30pm for the Allisonville Talent Show presented by our Dad’s Club. The doors open at 6:00pm and the show starts at 6:30pm. We have many great acts including comedy, singing, dancing, piano, violin, magic and more. You do not want to miss this amazing event! Tickets are $3 at the door for adults; students are free. Concessions will be sold as well.
Enjoy your 3-day weekend!

Middle School Content Placement
Washington Township Schools is committed to providing programming that challenges students to meet their full potential. Placement into honors courses will be based on a student application process and achievement and/or aptitude test results that may include grades, NWEA, CogAT, ILEARN, content-specific exams, etc.
If you are interested in having your child participate in honors courses for the 2022-2023 school year, please follow the process below. New honors applications are for students who are not currently enrolled in one of the classes listed below. If your child is already enrolled in an honors class and would like to apply for an additional course or subject area, they will need to complete the application process outlined below.
1. Students who are interested in honors courses will complete the student application. Printed copies of the application are available from their teacher and/or the school’s front office. Paper applications can be turned in to their teacher for elementary students or the school front office for middle school students.
2. Content tests will be given to students in order to place them in learning environments that best meet their needs. All 5th grade students will be taking math placement tests from February 22nd- March 2nd. [Note: Math assessments will not be administered next week per previous communications due to the extension of the CogAT testing window as a result of student absences.] Middle school students interested in honors science (new to honors programming in that subject area) will take placement tests prior to March 2nd.
3. District-level instructional coaches and middle school administration will evaluate the student applications and all academic data in an effort to conduct an unbiased approach.
