Communities In Schools at Rockbrook Elementary

Girls Night Out

April 30th, we opened up the doors of Rockbrook for our spring Girls Night Out event. It was a great success!! Moms (or other influential/important women) came with their 3rd-5th grade students to boost self-esteem and self-concept. The event gave moms and daughters the chance to affirm each other, play games together, craft and eat desserts from Swirl Bakery!! We had great attendance and it was so exciting to see our moms get to pour into their students!

Recommendation

We are no longer taking referrals for the Communities In Schools program this year, however if you have a student you believe would benefit from our services please fill out the recommendation form in the link above to recommend them for next school year.

**if you have a student in a crisis situation or who is in need of basic assistance please don't hesitate to send them to see Mrs. Beckmann, we still want to set our student's up for success during this school year.**

CIS Report Card

If you have not already filled out the Communities In Schools "Report Card", please consider doing so. Your feedback about how the program is functioning at Rockbrook is important to us!!

The link was sent in an email last week, but please let Mrs. Beckmann know if you need it sent again!

Our Intern Amanda

Amanda's last day with us is May 8th. She will be terminating with her students during that week, and tying up all the loose ends of her internship. If you see her in the halls, please make sure to thank her for all of her hard work! She has been a great asset to Rockbrook and we are going to miss her.

She will graduate from UNT on May 15th, and then will be continuing with Communities In Schools as a substitute Traditional Site Coordinator at Lewisville High School.

5th Grade Girls' Luncheons

Our 5th grade Girls' Group Luncheons continued this month on April 29th. The girls have been talking about self-esteem and changing of negative thought patterns about themselves, this was enforced through our speaker Dana Smith (CEO of Communities In Schools). Dana did a great job with a fantastic activity!

Additionally, this month, we had Shonda Barnett from the Dallas Women's Foundation attend our luncheon. The Dallas Women's Foundation awarded Communities In Schools at Rockbrook Elementary and Hedrick Elementary a $10,000 grant to continue the program this year. We are so thankful to them and their generous donation to help teach our female students how to become leaders!!
