Please send one canned good to school with your child, before or on 2/19. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time, as we will be loading the bus promptly at 9:00. In addition, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and for walking during the stadium tour. Also, don't forget to send a sack lunch, unless your child is signed up for a school sack lunch. Thank you!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING:
Math: This week we are beginning Topic 9: Dividing by 1-digit Divisors. Our objectives are as follows:
- dividing by using basic math facts and multiples of 10
- estimating quotients
- estimating quotients for greater dividends
- dividing with remainders
Reading: This week we will begin focusing on text structure. We will be integrating social studies topics into reading, as students will read various articles about explorers who have impacted Kansas. The articles will be used to emphasize different text structures.
Writing: The students will begin a writing piece that will be integrated with our Social Studies topic of immigrants. The students will read about different immigrant groups who have impacted Kansas. They will then create an informational writing piece and poster to share their knowledge of a specific immigrant group. We will be integrating technology by having the students create a Prezi about their assigned immigrant group.
Science: This is the final week of our study of structure and function of plants and animals. Our guiding question is: How are plants, animals, and society structured for survival? This week we will focus on the human brain and eye. The students will take a test on Friday.
