From the Plank South Leadership Team...
Between the snow days, the windstorm, and the normal hustle and bustle of the year, there is a lot to catch up on this week. This week catch up on the revised calendar, the Science Fair, Community Arts Day, and more!
One thing to be aware of is that the school district has extended the deadline on the Community Engagement Survey. Here is the link, and if you have not yet had a chance to take this survey we'd appreciate it if you took a few minutes to take it! This survey is used to assess where we're at and what we can do to improve as a building and a district. It is very useful information and is also compared to surveys from previous years to let us know if/where we have/haven't improved!
Also, if you have not yet read Superintendent Gumina's letter on NYS assessments, please do. The short version is that if you do not want your child take take one or more of the grade 3-8 NYS assessments please either send a letter or e-mail one of us (scott_wilcox@webstercsd.org or jennifer_sullivan@webstercsd.org) by Wednesday, March 22nd. The one thing we do recommend is that this decision comes from you now, based on your beliefs and what is best for your child, not from your child when assessments begin. The reason we write this is that sometimes when assessments arrive kids say they feel a little nervous and/or that they do not want to take the exams. Given the many times in the future when your child will be nervous or need to do something they are not excited about, we believe it is usually best in that scenario for the child to take the assessments and develop the Essential Skills of Perseverance and Resilience!
