3. Overlooked
Since 1851, The New York Times has published thousands of obituaries, capturing the lives and legacies of people who have influenced the world in which we live.
But many important figures were left out.
Overlooked reveals the stories of some of those remarkable people.
This special edition of Overlooked highlights a prominent group of black men and women whose lives we did not examine at the time of their deaths.
For reflection: Why were the individuals now recognized in this project overlooked at the time? What are other ways that history has overlooked individuals and groups of people before? In what ways does it happen today in the media and popular culture?
4. Notes & Reminders from the Office
- If you have not already, please take a moment to complete the Mater Schedule Feedback Survey that was sent to you via email.
- RESOURCES: See AMT visual, SMART Goal Map, PDF docs below. See also resources from Equity Action Team & on Google Expeditions below.
- Safety Minute: In the case of a fire alarm be sure to get students with you mobilized and lined up quickly for evacuation. BEFORE leading students out into the hall take a moment to step to your door and look/listen to be sure it is safe to evacuate. Always be aware of hazards that may exist between you and the way out. We cant assume that your primary path will always be clear.
- Student visitors will not be granted access to the building during school hours. If you make special arrangements for a former student to come visit as a presenter or volunteer, please let the office know in advance.
5. RESOURCE RE-POST: Bristol Equity in Action Teaching Resources
One of the things that our Equity in Action Team here at Bristol had discussed was wanting to try and create a place where teachers could go to find resources in support in their work in the classroom. We would like to encourage you to check out the folder and see what you might be able to use, but also think about what you might be able to add!
Click here to check out the Equity in Action Resource Folder
For reflection: How might you be able to us resources in your folder to improve instruction in your classroom? What might you already be doing that you can share with others?
6. RESOURCE RE-POST: Ready to go on an expedition with your class?
No, seriously. How about taking your class to explore the biomes? Maybe take an intimate look inside the National Museum of Iraq? Or take them to the foot of the Edmond Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama? Those are just 3 of over 900 VR Expeditions that are available.
What if we had the tools and the training to do something like this? We DO. Thanks to the Bristol PTO, a Google Expedition kit is here at Bristol.
Wheels turning now? :-) Click below to learn more and browse the hundreds of available expeditions.
Maybe the easiest way to explore is to download the Expeditions (Google) App to your phone and just explore. Talk to me (Bill) if you are interested. I am happy to model use of the Expeditions Kit for you in class.
