GPA Exemptions: If a current junior or senior would like to have a GPA exemption for a program such as football or orchestra, please have them contact their counselor for a GPA exemption form. Students can add or take away a GPA exemption through September 3, 2021. Students who might seek a GPA exemption should currently have at least a 4.0 weighted GPA.

Many of our students requested the exemption last spring, please look at your student’s schedule. If you see an R in front of the course code you wish to have exempted, then your student already has the exemption. The R is our code to exempt the class. If your student would like to be exempted and you do not see an R, then please have your student reach out to their counselor for an exemption form. Further information on GPA exemptions can be found on the counselor’s webpage or through the CISD link: GPA-Exempt-Courses-1.pdf (conroeisd.net)

Finally, the best way for a parent to reach their child’s counselor is via email. All counselor email addresses are under our counselor corner webpage.

Please know that counselors have an open-door policy for our students. We welcome our students all day long. If for some reason the counselor has a meeting or is attending a scheduled duty, then a note is offered to the student to briefly write their request. Counselors work to call for our students throughout the day. We are looking forward to a terrific year!

CLINIC NOTES:

As we are completing enrollment for this school year, we will be sending out emails or letters home if your student has any overdue vaccines. If you receive one of those letters, please take care of it promptly so that your student may remain enrolled.

If your student requires any medications on campus, it must be checked in by a parent or guardian. All medications must be in their original, labeled container, unexpired, and we ask that you provide no more than a 30-day supply. We highly encourage students to carry their own Epi-Pen or inhaler; those do need to be accompanied by a form that is completed by your doctor each school year.

For the most up to date information on the district’s Covid policy, we ask that you refer to the district’s Roadmap to Remaining Open, www.conroeisd.net/roadmap-to-reopening. Please continue to report any positive cases to your student’s nurse, and keep your student home if he or she has a pending Covid test. The district is offering free testing this year to students; that can be self-scheduled through their SSO.

YEARBOOK PICTURES: Underclass yearbook pictures will be taken Sept. 7 and 8 at the Ninth Grade Campus during English classes and Sept. 9 and 10 at the Senior campus during English classes.

THE WOODLANDS HIGH SCHOOL ART TRUST: Have you ever noticed the 49 works of art by established Texas artists that are permanently displayed in the hallways at school? This is The Woodlands High School Art Trust Collection and we are celebrating our 11th year! This collection of art works has been selected and purchased by our students over the past 10 years. Each year we add new works to the collection and our next selection process is about to begin. Submissions open on September 1st and will be accepted until October 10th for consideration into our collection for 2021. We invite established Texas artists who have had work accepted into a juried show and are over 21 to submit works to be considered for acquisition in 2021. If you know an established Texas Artist that might be interested, please pass this information on! Click HERE to learn more.

In mid-October, our student committee will narrow down the works submitted to 12-15 artworks that will be voted on by the entire student body in mid-November. Posters of the artworks will be on view at school in November and the original pieces will be displayed in the cafeteria just prior to voting. The students will purchase as many as possible of the pieces that receive the most votes on November 18.

The artworks are purchased through funds set aside by Student Council from the Homecoming Dance, however, the framing, lighting and conservation of these pieces need funding. Consider helping with that funding and show your support for The Woodlands High School Art Trust by joining our "One Hundred Friends of Art." Our goal is to have 100 arts supporters make an annual donation to support our cause. Donations are tax deductible and start as low as $10!! Visit our website to make a contribution: www.twhsat.org

The Woodlands High School Art Trust (TWHSAT) a 501(c)3 organization, was established in 2011 to help maintain, conserve and display the student-selected, student-purchased collection of established artists at The Woodlands High School. The vision for the TWHS Art Trust is to see the art collection grow each year and to have it extend through the hallways of the high school. Pre-COVID we offered FREE tours of our collection to schools and other groups by appointment and we hope to resume these tours as soon as we are able.

Other than the public sculptures around The Woodlands, this is the ONLY permanent collection of art available to the public. It is seen by THOUSANDS of people every day. Please consider supporting this unique collection that sets us apart from other public high schools and strengthens our goal of being one of the best high schools in the state and country.

For more information on The Woodlands High School Art Trust please visit our website: www.twhsat.org or contact Susan Cosculluela at twhsat@gmail.com
