CIS Weekly Updates
2022-2023 #7 October 3-7
PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
The first quarter ends on Thursday, October 13th. That means students only have 9 days to finish strong and make sure they get all of their work turned in. If you haven't checked ProgressBook lately, then I recommend you check it so you are aware of where your child stands as of now. Here is the link. ProgressBook
Below you will find information regarding school attendance and why it matters. Our goal is to help our students to succeed and that starts with them coming to school on a consistent basis. Please help us by encouraging your child to make a good effort to be here each day. Even when students makeup assignments, they miss out on the instruction and interactions that foster positive learning experiences.
Thank you PTO for providing a meal during conferences last week. Our teachers were able to enjoy a nice meal and it helped them with their busy night. We are VERY appreciative of all that you do to support our staff and students.
Have a FANTASTIC week!
Brandon Cobb, Principal
Why Does Good School Attendance Matter?
Showing up matters for R.E.A.L. It is an opportunity to:
Build Routines
Increase Engagement
Provide Access to resources
Support Learning
Routines: Daily attendance routines, created at home or in school, can reduce stress for students and families and create a sense of safety and security, especially after chaotic transitions.
Engagement: Being in school helps students to get to know peers, teachers and school staff, and to create trusting relationships that motivate students to participate in learning.
Access to Resources: Schools help students and families gain access to basic resources such as meals, physical and mental health services, and fun enrichment activities including sports, clubs, music, afterschool and summer programs.
Learning: Learning is most meaningful when it is active, social, and allows students to apply concepts to real life situations. Showing up to school regularly helps students engage in learning that builds proficiency in reading and math that will help them to graduate from high school.5th Grade Movie Night - THURSDAY
On October 6th, Student Council will hold a movie night for all 5th grade students. The movie will take place immediately after school from 3:30--5:45 in the O.J. Work Auditorium. The movie that will be shown is Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), which is “PG” rated.
Not only will the students watch the movie, but they will also have pizza and water during the intermission! The cost for the event is $5.00, which will be collected in homerooms on the day of the movie.
If your child would like to attend, please complete the permission slip below and return it with your child to school on Thursday, October 6, 2022 along with the $5.00. The permission slip and money will be collected in homerooms. Please make sure your child has transportation home promptly at 5:45 p.m.

COVID-19 & ILLNESS AT CIS
ODH recommends schools follow general isolation procedures from the CDC for confirmed cases. If students or staff feel sick or suspect they might have COVID-19, they should stay home and take a rapid test. If positive, students and staff should stay home from school for at least 5 days and longer if necessary until fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving. Additionally, after isolation ends, students and staff should continue to take precautions as they resume normal activities by wearing a mask for 5 days (or after two negative tests 48 hours apart).
