TUMUAKI KŌRERO
Kia ora e te whānau,
Last week I was in Christchurch at the New Zealand Principals’ Federation Conference, where just under 1000 Principals from primary and intermediate schools were in attendance. The presentations and conversations I had left me incredibly grateful to lead Takapuna Normal Intermediate. Although the last few years have been very challenging, compared to some other schools, we have maintained exceptionally high attendance, engagement and continuity levels. Thank you to the wonderful staff, learners and community for making this possible.
Thank you all for the support to our Mahi-Tahi-a-Thon it has been a fabulous week of challenges with learners running 2,300 laps of the field, over 300,000-star jumps and 44,870burpees. Thus far, we have raised $11,645.00, and it is not too late to donate. Thanks to Courtney Sheehan for the wonderful job she has done coordinating this fundraiser.
School Board Elections Results
Congratulations to the following who have been appointed to our new Board:-
- Irene Brodie
- Tatum Crisp
- Gregory Rootman
- Alauddin Khan
- Rachel Wotten
- Courtney Sheehan (Staff representative)
They will join Tony Kelly and Ant Ford, who has been co-opted onto the Board due to their expertise and experience. The new Board had an interim meeting on Monday evening, and Irene Brodie was elected as Presiding Member and Ant Ford as Deputy Presiding Member.

SCHOOL NEWS AND INFORMATION
Final Mahi Tahi-a-thon update!
Firstly, we would like to celebrate the incredible mahi all of our learners did throughout the challenges. This week quickly became so much more than a fundraiser. It was about getting together as a school to work towards a shared goal. The buzz and pride around the school was just fantastic and the effort, resilience, and attitudes of our learners was exemplary.
As a school we completed:
2439 laps of our school field,
360,022 star jumps,
248 basketball free throws,
44,870 burpees,
and other brain challenges along the way!
Ka rawe TNIS!
We would also like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our Mahi Tahi-a-thon in some way. From sponsors to words of encouragement to anyone who made a donation. An event like this isn't possible without everyone coming together (mahi tahi!).
Ngā mihi nui and thank you for supporting our learners!
TNIS AIMS 2022 Wrap up!
Well done to all the competitors you did TNIS proud!
The Resilience Project Information Evening
We had a wonderful evening, connecting with one another and learning about the three pillars of resilience- gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy. Thanks again to all whānau that joined us. If you want to learn more about the program, please see The Resilience Project at homes site. This site gives great information on the programme and has a great podcast and activities for you to try at home.
We will have another evening early term 1, 2023 and we look forward to seeing many of our community attending.

HIGH SCHOOL ENROLMENT INFORMATION
Westlake Girls Transition Interviews
At WGHS, we understand first-hand that good parent-school partnerships are the best way to support our students' learning. In Term 3, we encourage parents of students attending WGHS in 2023 who have additional learning and behavioural needs to start this partnership process now. Please consider booking your daughter's enrolment interview with Mrs Julie Mulcahy, the Head of Learning Enhancement at WGHS. This is an opportunity for you as parents and your daughter to share information about learning needs so we can work together to support a successful transition from intermediate to secondary schooling.
I look forward to meeting our new families and students so we can ensure every student at Westlake is supported, present, participating, learning and belonging in 2023. Please use the following email address enrolments@westlakegirls.school.nz and specify that you want to make an appointment with Julie Mulcahy. This meeting will be for 30mins.

Music Education Centre Music Lessons at TNIS
Instrumental music lessons are available right here at school! Our school partners with the Music Education Centre to offer one-to-one instruction to our students on-site. In addition to the lessons here at school, the Music Education Centre offers a wide variety of instruments through its centres outside of school time.
