The River Hawk
Rio Norte News - August 26, 2022
A note from the principal
We had a great week at Rio Norte, with Dodgeball Intramurals starting at lunch, courtesy of our P.E. Department and Club Day, run by our ASB and their advisor, Ms. Ng. Students were able to walk around the quad checking out displays of various clubs and signing up to become a member. Once all club approvals are finalized, our Clubs List will be placed on our website. Students can join a club at any time during the year.
This upcoming week, we are excited to welcome parents and guardians to Back to School Night on Thursday, September 1st! This is the FIRST in-person Back to School Night since the pandemic began and we couldn't be happier to return to our traditional format where parents and guardians will follow their student's schedule moving from class to class, listening to presentations from their six teachers. See below for details on Back to School Night.
Last week, I shared that the district has contracted with a Firearm K9 Detection Unit that will come randomly to all district schools. These dogs are working dogs that cannot be pet and will be with a uniformed handler. Separate from that, our Wellness Program has secured Therapy Dogs that will come to campus on Friday mornings before school, beginning this Friday, September 2nd. These dogs will be with regular community members who are sharing their trained therapy pets with our campus to bring joy, happiness, and promote wellness. They are kind and gentle dogs that will be outside in the center of campus and CAN be pet and loved. If your student is interested in partaking, please remind them to initially approach the dogs gently, putting the back of their hand out for the dog to smell. Once that introduction is complete, they can enjoy these loving, furry companions.
Finally, the following weekend is Labor Day weekend and there will be no school on Monday, September 5th. While we know it's tempting to get a jump start on travel, we ask that you try your best to avoid pulling your student from school early on Friday. Statistics show that students learn best when they are present in class for the direct instruction and learning activities happening in the classroom. If it is absolutely unavoidable, email our attendance tech at lmortensen@hartdistrict.org to clear your student's absence.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing as many parents/guardians as possible Thursday night.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bennett
