The Chicago Black Sox trial
The Black Sox Scandal took place during the play of the 1919 World Series. The Chicago White Sox lost the series to the Cincinnati Reds, and eight White Sox players were later accused of intentionally losing games in exchange for money from gamblers. Eddie Cicotte, Oscar Felsch, Armold Gandil, Joe Jackson, Fred Mcmullin, Charles Risberg, George Weaver, and Claude Williams were the 8 White Sox players that were banned for life from baseball. This conviction was significant because it showed a corruption in sports that wasn't seen by the public and showed how games were not only fixed then, but how some of them still are today. The theme of this trial was Americanism because we needed to establish a better cooperation between the players and the league.
