Notes from Dr. Irvin
Your WGHS Weekly eNews for January 20
Hello Parents and Guardians,
We are entering into an important phase in our year when we are charged to replace teachers that are retiring, moving, or otherwise not joining us for the next year. Part of our process is to have the candidates teach mini-lessons in a class with our students in the content they are studying, as has been the practice for many years here at Webster. After the lesson, we debrief the students on what resonated and what they might need further clarity on to better understand the topic that was shared. Previously, the students have proven very insightful in their observations and questions as we began our search for the best candidates. They have proven to be great ambassadors at Webster Groves High School. I am excited for where we are and where we are headed.
Best,
Matt Irvin

ECHO Receives Honors
- Interactivity & Community
- Breaking News
The Echo staff earned 453 on a 500 point scale. The judge said, "From the moment a reader goes to The Echo, they are engulfed by a site that brings a lot of great, concise content that provides the latest information in a timely fashion. The addition of video and podcasts helps the site take advantage of being a digital publication and that's vital in 2022. What's perhaps the most impressive is that all this is being done with a fairly small staff." Congratulations, Echo staff!

School Closing Information Due to Inclement Weather
Communication
Should bad weather or other adverse conditions prompt us to consider closing schools, the District will make a decision as early as possible. Information will be available through the following outlets:
- Phone calls to all families through School Messenger
- Local media: KMOV TV (Channel 4), KSDK TV (Channel 5), KTVI (Channel 2) and KMOX radio (AM 1120)
- District website www.webster.k12.mo.us
- Facebook https://www.facebook.com/WebsterGrovesSD
- Twitter @WebsterGrovesSD
Late Start due to Inclement Weather
The District will consider opening schools with a late start or calling for an early dismissal depending on weather conditions. A late start would keep children off the street during the busy morning rush hour if roads are expected to be clear within a few hours; early dismissal would allow students to get home safely before bad weather moves into the area. Quick breakfasts would be available when school doors open before classes begin. Students should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the start of school. (This doesn’t include Ambrose Preschool children.)
All schools would close at their regular times and there would be no Adventure Club.

** Late starts will be announced through the same communication outlets listed above **

Junior parents: Is your child planning to attend a four year college or university? While many colleges have been “test optional” for the past two years as a result of covid, plans for next year are not yet clear and many colleges will still require ACT or SAT scores for admission and/or scholarships.
