Bucket List Challenge: Inductive Learning Lesson
The teacher in me misses getting to teach lessons and try new things with kids every day. So, years ago, I started a bucket list of lessons and activities to keep track of all the ideas that spark in my mind.
I ran across this article about teaching an inductive learning lesson a few days ago and decided it needed to go on my bucket list. The author, Jennifer Gonzalez of Cult of Pedagogy, writes, "Inductive learning takes the traditional sequence of a lesson and reverses things. Instead of saying, 'Here is the knowledge; now go practice it,' inductive learning says, 'Here are some objects, some data, some artifacts, some experiences…what knowledge can we gain from them?'”
If someone wants to accept this Mishler Bucket List Challenge, let me know - I want to come learn with you and your scholars!
Go Warhawks! And, remember, you belong here.

From WMS SPED
If you have a para coming in to your class to support some of your students (ICS), you may have some questions. Here are some frequently asked questions (if you have others, please let me know).
- What is ICS? Some of our scholars need a little extra support to be successful in their general ed. Classes. This support is given in the form of a staff coming into the class (ICS).
- What does ICS do? ICS may be in the form of taking data, helping scholars get started, take notes, stay focused, read a passage, read directions, or anything that helps toward success in the classroom.
- Can this person can also help other scholars? Yes. In fact, it helps SPED scholars see that receiving help is normal.
- Can they work with the scholars in another location? Yes. After you have taught the lesson, they could take scholars to another location (i.e. the hallway, Content Mastery, the library, etc. to work on the assignment or the project)
- What do I do if I feel one of my other scholars, who currently does not receive ICS, needs it? Talk to one of the SPED teachers or let one of the paras know.

Content Mastery
Please enter all testing dates in the CM testing calendar. You can enter them as early as you have them on your prospective calendars, and update them as necessary.
In setting testing dates, please consider the other tests that may be scheduled for that day. It is in the best interest of our scholars to not overload them with multiple tests on one day, and it will allow the testing lab teachers to better meet individual testing needs if scheduled accordingly.
Questions? See Mrs. Butler in Content Mastery.
From the Library
The secondary librarians agreed last May that there were not enough people using Safari Montage on their campuses to justify the cost (our campus alone would have been about $3,000). We spoke to representatives from the company who told us that the company was losing so many school districts that the didn't know how much longer they would be in business. So, it was our decision to stop paying for the service.
We are looking for an alternative, but for the time being you will have to rely on YouTube and/or ask Mrs. Gary or Mrs. Bales to purchase the DVD if it is available for public presentation.
LEADS Teacher Innovators: Sponsors Needed
The LEADS program is designed to help students realize that no matter their age, anyone and everyone can make a difference in their community. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to work with students of other ages, which will promote positive interactions within CSISD as well as providing students with peer leader mentors. Students in the LEADS program will serve as ambassadors between our district and the community as they work on their projects. Another goal is for these leaders to be a visible presence at events within the district and around the City of College Station.
For more information, check out the LEADS Website.
We are looking for two (2) LEADS Teacher sponsors to represent WMS. If you are interested, see Mishler.
EdCampCSTX - October 13
We'd love to have a full house of Warhawks to join in the conversations. If you have never attended an EdCamp, then we highly recommend you come. All attendees have the opportunity to build the learning conversations by providing input on what they want to learn about or feel comfortable facilitating a coversation.
