Summer Packet- Look for it Next Week
I'm sending home a packet of review pages that your child can work on this summer. If they complete all of the pages this summer, you can return the packet to me at the school and your child will receive a prize. See the homework help box below for other ways to avoid the dreaded "summer slide" and ways make your 3rd grade teacher happy!
ALL STUDENTS WILL NEED A LARGE PAPER GROCERY BAG at school by May 22nd. (Or a reusable bag that has a flat bottom and can stand on its own)
Coats Needed
Please continue to send a coat with your child. Morning recess is still quite chilly and we want everyone to be dressed safely for the temperature.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Water Bottle Caps Needed!
THANK YOU!
Reading
Math
Solving word problems using multiplication and division strategies
Keep practicing those addition and subtraction facts at home this summer! Third grade doesn't spend time reviewing those much, but the kids REALLY need to know them quickly and automatically.
English and Writing
English- We are finishing up unit 5 by reviewing and getting ready for our test next week!
Writing- We are finishing up illustrating our books. We are excited to share those next week at the author share!
Spelling Words
NO SPELLING WORDS NEXT WEEK
Homework
Your child's nightly homework: Read 20 minutes every night!
Homework Help for Summer
- Read- everyday- for 20 minutes- but more would be great!
- Ask your child questions about what they've read or to tell you a summary of their book
- Do the summer packet - a page a day takes 5-10 minutes- return the finished packet to me in August (drop it off at our office) and I'll send your child a prize
- Put away the electronics and PLAY- studies show that moving your body increases brain power
- Think creatively- build, do art projects, sidewalk chalk, sew, cook
- Be responsible- your child that is ! Give them jobs- they'll stay out of trouble and you'll have less to do! No reward is necessary for completing the job- we all have do do things just because we have to and its never to early to learn that lesson!
- Do math in everyday activities- measure, tell time (on an analog clock (with hands)- not digital), estimate, add/ subtract at the store mentally to find the total of items, count change, help with a garage sale
- Learn a new skill- how to make a dish, how to air up bike tires, whatever that your child might find interesting!
- Have fun -- summer is short!
