A Message From the Principal...
I hope you are enjoying your summer break! But, believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about the 2021-2022 school year!
The information in this initial newsletter will help you and your student prepare for the return to school. If at any time you have questions, please call Columbus Junior High School at (979) 732 -2891.
We look forward to a successful 2021-22 school year!
New and Returning Student Registration Opens Monday. July 19th!
Returning students that do not provide their annual proof of residency (even if they have not moved) may not be placed in classes or receive a class schedule until this requirement has been completed.

Meet the Teacher
Thursday, Aug. 12th, 5pm
702 Rampart Street
- 5:00 - 5:30 pm: Schedule pick up for all 6th - 8th grade students in the CJHS Cafeteria. Bring school supplies and drop them off with the teachers.
- 5:30 pm: All 6th - 8th grade students and parents/guardians meet in the new gym. Welcome and introductions from the front office team. Review daily procedures and expectations.
- Walk through your student's schedule and meet each of the teachers.
- Learn more about NJHS, Student Council, Cards Who Care, One Act Play, and UIL Academics.
- All male athletes grades 7-8 meet in the new gym for a brief overview of athletic policy and expectations with Coach Bohac.
- All female athletes grades 7-8 meet in the cafeteria for a brief overview of athletic policy and expectations with Coach Mikulin.
- Register to participate in the CJHS-RC PTO
All students who attend Meet the Teacher with their parent/guardian will get their choice of either:
- Free Delivery Card - Good for allowing one outside lunch delivery.
- Snow Cone Card - Excuses the student from advisory to have a snow cone on the back porch.
Shopping for back to school clothes? Be sure your student is in dress code!
CJHS Dress Code
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
Clothing must be neat, clean, modest, and appropriate for the classroom.
Clothing and personal appearance that may cause a disruption to the educational process will not be allowed.
Clothing and accessories shall not be worn in a manner that conceals or obscures identity or creates a safety issue.
Clothing must not be too loose, saggy, or over-sized.
The waistband of pants, shorts, or skirts must be worn at the waist.
Clothing may not be too tight for free movement, comfortable for sitting, reaching, or bending positions.
Pants or blue jeans with holes or threads will be allowed if the holes or threads are at or below the knee or if a solid color legging is worn under the pants.
No tank tops or tracking shorts are allowed.
Cut-offs, spandex, pajamas, sweat pants, and lounge-type outfits are not permitted.
Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be no shorter than 5 inches above the knee.
Leggings may be worn but must be accompanied by shorts, skirts, dresses, or shirts of the appropriate length (no shorter than 5 inches above the knee).
Vulgar or obscene patches, and suggestive lettering or insignia of organizational products referring to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sex, weapons, or gang-related paraphernalia are not permitted. This includes all grotesque figures that imply death, killing, horror, or crime of any variety.
Suggestive wording or phrases of any kind are prohibited.
Hoods, hats, caps, sports head bands or any other head covering shall not be worn in the building or taken into classrooms.
Non-prescription sunglasses shall not be worn inside the school building. If worn in the school, these prohibited items will be confiscated.
All students must wear appropriate shoes designed for outdoor use. No roller shoes, shower shoes, or house shoes are allowed.
Boys – Sleeveless shirts, tank tops, undershirts, mesh knit shirts, spandex, extra-thin clothing, or tight and/or revealing clothing are not allowed.
Girls – Dresses, shirts, and blouses shall not be extremely low cut in the front, back or sides are not allowed. They shall be of such length or design that the mid-section of the body shall not be exposed while arms are raised above the head. Mesh knit, sleeveless, spaghetti straps, strapless, spandex, tight and/or revealing clothing, or extra-thin clothing is not acceptable. The length of dresses, skirts, and shorts must be no shorter than five (5) inches above the knees. Ears are the only acceptable area for wearing piercing jewelry.
Boys – Earrings and/or facial piercings/jewelry are not acceptable. Jewelry for any pierced area of the body is not acceptable.
Girls – Facial piercings/jewelry are not acceptable. Jewelry for any pierced area of the body, other than the ears, is not acceptable.
Fidget spinners or other similar items are not allowed unless accompanied by a doctor’s note.
Jewelry and accessories are not to be noisy, distracting, disruptive or offensive in any way.
Hats, caps, sports headbands, stocking caps, bandannas, chains, grills, sunglasses, and hip cloths are not acceptable.
Earphones or headphones are not allowed during the school day. If they are visible, they will be confiscated.
Rakes, picks & grooming combs may not be worn in hair.
Tattoos are not allowed to be visible.
Facial hair is not acceptable.
Hair must be kept clean and neat.
Distracting hair designs or logos cannot be shaved into the hair or eyebrows.
No students’ hair shall be colored a non-natural human color. Examples: blue, green, pink, etc.
