Principal's Message

Good Evening Robinson Families,

As we get ready to engage in our work this week and our Thanksgiving week approaches us, I want to take this moment to thank you for all of your support.

I am grateful to our parents for helping us build an excellent community for our students. I am also thankful that our parents have kept the trust and confidence in us. Your efforts to work hard along side us to advocate to ensure all children receive a quality education, are safe and their well being is kept at the forefront is greatly appreciated.

A shout out to my teaching and support staff who care about student success and have the best interests of our students in essence. I see dedicated and hard-working individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. They make a significant difference, and our students benefit from those efforts.

I would like to wish all of you and your families a healthy, relaxing and happy Thanksgiving break!

With appreciation,

A Message from Dr. Jill Baker

Dear Long Beach Unified Community,

The fall semester has brought a successful reopening of schools to in-person learning largely because of the teamwork of students, parents, staff and community partners. Since the beginning of the school year, we have administered more than 116,000 COVID-19 tests, resulting in a positivity rate of less than 1%. In mid-September we shifted to testing representative samples of 10 percent of students at each school, and positivity rates have remained below 1%.

Asymptomatic testing is just one of many precautionary measures being taken to manage any potential COVID-19 cases in our schools. We continue to maintain various COVID-19 safety protocols such as wearing face masks, screening for symptoms and staying home when sick, optimizing ventilation, maintaining hand hygiene, case reporting, contact tracing and when necessary, temporary home-quarantining.

In light of the consistently low positivity rate in our schools, we will be pausing the asymptomatic testing of our 10 percent student representative samples starting Monday, Nov. 15, and going at least through the end of winter break. Keep in mind that athletes and LBUSD staff will still be required to test depending on vaccination status, as well as select students who must test as part of the modified quarantine process. We conducted the original asymptomatic testing process as an extra precaution for the first weeks of school, but it was not required. In fact, most school districts are no longer implementing such testing.

As you know, our district does not currently have a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for students. However, we encourage all eligible people to be vaccinated. COVID-19 vaccinations have recently become available for students ages 5 to 11, and a list of November vaccination clinics offered by Long Beach Health and Human Services is available here.

Again, we’re thankful for the tremendous community effort that has helped us to bring students back to classrooms this fall.

With deep appreciation,

Jill

Jill

Native American and Alaska Native History Month!

On August 3, 1990, President of the United States George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, thereafter commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month. The bill read in part that "the President has authorized and requested to call upon Federal, State and local Governments groups, and organizations and the people of the United States to observe such month with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities". This landmark bill honoring America's tribal people represented a major step in the establishment of this celebration which began in 1976 when a Cherokee/Osage Indian named Jerry C. Elliott-High Eagle authored Native American Awareness Week legislation the first historical week of recognition in the nation for native peoples. This led to 1986 with President Ronald Reagan proclaiming November 23-30, 1986, as "American Indian Week".
