SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE AN ORIGINAL VOGELTOWN LEARNER'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'respectful'.
TE REO FOCUS - WEEK 3 and 4 - HANGI PROCESS
For thje next 3 weeks we are looking at the Hangi process as we we get closer to our Vogeltown Whanau Hangi day! There is lot of mahi that goes in to getting a hangi organised, cooked and then to have the celebratory feed!
A reminder that this day is Friday 18th November (1pm eating)
A big thanks to all those families and whanau who have donated food items for the Hangi - we are only asking for frozen meats at this stage. We will put out a call for vegetables in the next couple of weeks.
Have a look at the link below - interesting how we cook hangi!
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Our attendance this term has been sitting at 88% - this week has seen a bit of a drop off in attendance. We know that there is a surge in covid cases and some other flu like bugs floating around - you will notice we have added the Covid update chart to our newsletter (see below).
This week we had our last visit from Cath Leger from the Education Review Office (ERO), this was another positive visit and we look forward to working with Cath over the next 3 years. Our profile report will be available for the community to view soon - we are very pleased with how this looks and acknowledges the great work our Vogeltown team continue to provide to our learners, our community and the team.
This week we also say goodbye to Cam Hedley who has been a 'student teacher' in Room 12 over the last 8 weeks. We thank Cam for her commitment, professionalism, energy, great teaching and dedication to the school - so much so, that we have offered Cam a job in the Huatoki syndicate next year! Ka mau te wehi, Cam!
Today we had to deal with some 'online bullying' that happened between some of our learners overnight. We take this bullying very seriously. Our school policy regarding digital incidents is as follows:
'We have clear guidelines about acceptable and unacceptable use of technology; and students, caregivers, and parents sign use agreements. We take any breach of cybersafety seriously and respond as appropriate.' We will involve Netsafe and the Police if we feel this is appropriate. Please help us out - check what your kids are watching, check the apps on their phones and if you need to go over the checklist with the family in the link below - it is very useful.
Have an awesome weekend whanau! Get out and enjoy the sun (wear a hat) and spend some quality time with your kids - they are all awesome!
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,
Mr O and the VS team
COVID UPDATE 4/11/2022
MID YEAR DATA 2022
BUCKET HATS!
We have noticed a lot of our tamariki (children) are not wearing hats at present - we continue to remind our learners each day, but the message is only slowly getting through. We have an extremely high UV index currently - even Wednesday, which as overcast had a UV index of 7 (out of 10)!
As the term goes on we are expecting the temperatures to climb and this means the sun is more intense. Thanks for your support with this policy, whanau. We do sell Vogeltown bucket hats at the school office but any bucket hat is fine to wear.
NEW LEARNERS AT VOGELTOWN
A massive welcome to Vogeltown School to all our new tamariki! We had an awesome assembly yesterday to welcome our new 'Vogeltowners'. Welcome to the following tamariki who started with us recently:

YEAR 5 AND 6 CAMP, 2023
Every 2 years, we hold a camp for all our Year 5 and 6 students. Our 2023 camp will be held from Wednesday 22 February to Friday 24 February at Vertical Horizon in Inglewood.
The cost of camp will be $155 per child. We are part of the Ministry of Education's donation scheme, but would still appreciate donations towards the cost of camp. We have loaded the camp fees onto Kindo so that families are able to spread the cost out over the coming months. Cash and EFTPOS payments will also be welcomed.
Our camp cannot function without parent support. If you would like to attend camp as a parent helper, you will need to complete a Police Vetting Form. These can be collected from the Senior Office. We also need to sight one form of photographic ID.
More information about camp will continue to become available over the coming months.
Regards
The Paetoki Team

4 YEAR OLD FRIDAY - TERM 4 2022
ENROLMENTS FOR 2023
Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available
from the school office.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period runs from 1 February 2023 to 6 April 2023.
The second enrolment period runs from 24 April 2023 to 30 June 2023.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students
turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely
to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by
16 December 2022. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments
received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt
of out of zone places is Friday 3 February 2023. Application for enrolment for an out of
zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the
school office and off our school website). Applications can be sent via email to
office@vogeltown.school.nz or delivered directly to the school office.
Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2023
should apply by 30th September 2022 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2023
school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the
number of places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with
instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on
Tuesday 7 February 2023.
Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Friday 10 February
2023.
