Campus Brief
Cool Cats,
Welcome back!!! I truly hope you enjoyed your holiday break! I hope it was a time of rest and renewal! After all isn't that what the new year is all about? Resolutions for renewal. There is just something about a new year that inspires one to reflect, evaluate, and strive to become better. As I read and relaxed over the break, I came across some old information that was still relevant. Think about this:
Steven Covey likes to ask this question when doing work with adults:
“How many of you had someone in your life that communicated your worth and potential so clearly that it profoundly influenced your life?” Inevitably over half the people will raise their hands. I walk around the room and ask them to share their experience with how it happened, who did it, the impact that it had upon them, and if they, too, are making the choice to do the same with other people. People often become very emotional when they talk about the parent, the coach, the teacher, the formal leader, the friend, the neighbor, or the relative who became very close to them and communicated to them their worth and potential. This is always an inspiring experience. (Excerpt from Steven Covey’s blog on leadership) Will you be the teacher, the educator that adds value to your students and profoundly impacts their lives this way? Are you adding value each day or are you diminishing value? Ten or fifteen years from now when you run into your students, they may not remember the excellent lessons you taught or the assignments they completed for you, but never doubt they will always remember the way you made them feel. Did they grow in confidence? Did they begin to believe they could really do it? Did they learn and grow? Did they know they were loved no matter what? That's what they'll remember!
Let's renew our commitment to letting our students know how valuable they are! After all they are the reason we are here!
Happy New Year! Here are a few updates to keep in mind....
Staff Updates
New office entry/exit updates
If you have been in the office this week you have noticed that you can not exit the office to the main hallway without Angela M. or Rita buzzing you out. Yes, we've got high tech security around here! Please note that your badge will also get you out of the main office. Please make sure you are wearing your badges with the key card attached so that you may come and go as you please. Also, with our new safety procedures, we will need to lock the main office at the end of the day and on weekends. With the way our locks work this means that the office and the lounge will be locked. This may mean you have to secure any personal items needed from the refrigerator before office staff leaves in the afternoons. The work room will not be affected.
New Fence
We are so excited to let you know that we have added a fence between the PPCD play area and the big open baseball and soccer fields. This is an added measure of security for our students and a BIG help for our teachers when students are difficult to round up. Be sure to thank Dr. Vinson next time he's in the building! This will not change our fire drill procedures. We will use the gates in the fence to access our designated spots.
We will have a brief staff meeting after school on Monday, January 14th. Paige will share some additional information. Please bring your cell phones to the meeting.
From Tuesday's email...
We need everyone to participate! This year they have made it so easy to complete. Just text from your phone and mark that you had your BP checked and select our campus. It will direct you to complete a short survey.
If you want to order a shirt the deadline is the 10th.
I have 2 sizes for the BP cuffs on my clinic counter that you can come use at any time. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask J (If you had your BP checked within the last 6 months or monitor at home/doctor’s office you do not need to come check in the clinic.Money, Money, Money MONEY!
Don't forget your school board donations are due tomorrow! $5 paras/ $10 teachers
Woohoo!!! All outstanding McDonald's checks have been received. See Mrs. Rita for your
team's.
Remembering the Essentials in the New Year!
Please remember to use daily lesson frames. Written and stated lesson frames that state the learning objective for the day are so important! Remember students are bombarded with information they must filter to determine what is and is not important. Having your lesson frames and stating your objectives is a necessary reminder to students of exactly what they are supposed to know and do! This is a best practice adopted by the district and can be referenced in The Fundamental 5 by Sean Cain and Mike Laird.
Also from this book, let's remember how important it is to be in the power zone with proximity instruction! Being in the middle of the action helps on-task behaviors increase, discipline issues decrease, and student engagement and retention increase!
Lesson plans- As we move in and out of classrooms to do walkthroughs, we are beginning to reference lesson plans. Please make sure to keep your plans updated. Thank you!
Just in case I haven't told you since last year how wonderful you are and how blessed Hartman students are to have you, let it now be said! You're awesome and so very appreciated!
