January 4-13

Our theme this year is "Wolfpack Strong." We believe that learning and growing together is the key to our success. Strength lies in the pack, and we will remember this theme throughout the year as we work cooperatively to be successful!

Learning Objectives This Week

Reading

Identify characteristics of myths and use strategies to break apart different myths.

Monday-1/9 Summarize a myth


Writing

Identify characteristics of fantasy writings. Students will begin to brainstorm ideas for their fantasy writing


Math

Personal Financial Literacy (Taxes, Income, and Budget)

Think Through Math Placement Test (online; determines where each child should begin their second semester of Think Through Math) - January 4 and 5


Science

Explore the processes that form sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels


Social Studies

Review the Bill of Right and determine what rights each Amendment protects.

Homework

Homework is on Canvas. It is due on Friday, January 13th.

Homework is graded based on accuracy.

Reading- No homework this week, HOWEVER, if you complete I-Station assignments at home, you will earn Dojo points for each assignment completed this week! On Friday, give your Reading teacher a list of the assignments you have completed.

Math- "Topic 9 Reteaching" (review of multiplying and dividing fractions) - Textbook pages 495-496

Science-No homework this week!

Day of Service:

The TWE Specials Team will be collecting new or gently used athletic shoes only on Friday, January 13, 2017 – our Day of Service to be donated to Soles 4 Souls. Check out the organization at www.Soles4Souls.org

Athletic shoes can be new or gently used and should be brought to Specials ONLY on January 13, not before -all Specials will be in the gym this day as we partner up to help out this organization.


Think Through Math:

This is a free, online math program that allows students to learn and practice to improve mathematics skills. By using Think Through Math on a regular basis, students will become better at problem-solving and computation. These are important skills for success on the STAAR test, 5th grade classroom work, and preparation for 6th grade math. Students access Think Through Math using their MyKatyCloud account.


ID Badges and Lanyards

All students must have a school issued ID and lanyard at all times. Lanyards must be break away lanyards. The only lanyards allowed are the blue kind from the library or the PTA lanyards. If you child needs a new ID badge, it costs $3 to replace. Lanyards cost $1. 2016-2017 TWE Yearbooks on Sale

Don't miss out on also ordering the 5th Grade Extended Edition. This will be an extra insert to go into the yearbook that will have only 5th grade events that happen after the yearbook deadline. It will be an 8-12 page supplement. It will be mailed out after school is over. You will be able to attach the supplement into the yearbook.


Lost and Found

If your child has lost something, please have them check the lost and found. Please make sure your child's name is on lunchboxes, water bottles, backpacks and jackets.
