Reynolds Families,

This past week our Counselor, Mr. Torrico, led fun filled activities and lessons tied to College and Career Awareness. We enjoyed seeing and hearing our students describe what they want to become when they grow up.

Our 5th grade campers came home safe and sound with memories and a experience that they will always remember. A huge thank you to our PTO for making this opportunity happen.

On Wednesday we will be having a Family Literacy Night. It is an opportunity to come and gather resources to continue supporting your child during the summer months. It will be from 6-7 pm in the MPR. Hope to see you there.

This weeks Fun Friday will be a Color Run. In order for your child to participate, they will need to have a signed permission slip. Families are welcome to come and cheer your student. See PTO section for more information.

TK-2nd graders will run 2:30-2:50 pm

3rd-5th graders will run 3:00-3:30 pm

Hello Friends and Families,

Another great week in the books. We had a fun filled week with a chalk day, bubble assembly, Love on a Leash, 5th-grade camp, and a spirit week. What an amazing week. This week we will have a Color Run that will be unforgettable.

Our Boys Running Club is weeks away from running their 5k. They've been training hard to prepare for the race. If you are free on June 10th, I would like to invite you all to join us. The proceeds of the 5k will go to Self Rescue swim lessons scholarships for children in our community. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1-4, HELP US CHANGE THIS STATISTIC! If you are interested in joining or donating attached, you will find a flyer.

Chavez parents: We will have a field trip to tour Chavez Middle School. If you haven't already turned in your permission slip, please do so by Tuesday.

Mark your calendars! Reynolds Elementary School and Reynolds Raccoons PTO are hosting a Color Run on Friday, May 26! Here are some things to know:

Students:

• need to have a permission slip turned in to participate (extras are in the main office or from your child's teacher)
• should bring a water bottle to school that day
• should wear a white shirt and clothes that can get dirty

Parents/Guardians:

Our staff has noticed that students have been bringing Energy drinks on campus. Based on our district's Wellness Policy these drinks are not allowed. Please make sure your student does not bring these drinks on campus. We have typically seen students bringing to campus the energy drink "Prime".

As per District and School rules, mobile communication devices shall be turned off during school time.Violation of the school site’s rules for uses of electronic devices may result in confiscation. Site is not responsible if electronic devices are lost or stolen after they are confiscated.

Motor officers will go by schools during drop off and pick-ups to monitor traffic. They cannot be at every school daily but will rotate around the city. This will not be a

mandatory enforcement detail but an observation, education, and last resort, enforcement. We want everyone to be safe, especially around our schools.

Please let your staff and parents know that they might be seeing an increase of police presence around their schools for this reason. If you get a chance please thank our OPD partners.

Reynolds' cafeteria will sell ice cream on Wednesdays . Students can purchase an ice cream or a cookie for $1.00. The sales will now only be on Wednesdays. If you wish your child to purchase a treat please send them with only one dollar ($1.00).

Flu and/or RSV information

County Health Department

Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications. Symptoms of influenza can vary, but generally include a high fever, headache, chills, body aches, sore throat, and cough.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers these tips to prevent influenza:

• Get vaccinated every year

• Avoid close contact with sick people

• Frequently wash hands with soap

• Stay at home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

• Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.

• See more prevention tips from the CDC.

The influenza vaccine is available at doctors’ offices and retail pharmacies and is covered by medical insurance. People with no health care coverage can get vaccinated at one of the County’s six public health centers or a local community clinic. To find the nearest location, visit the County’s Flu Vaccine Locations page or call 2-1-1 San Diego. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated every year.

La temporada de resfriados y gripa (influenza) ya está aquí. Las autoridades de salud advierten de que puede haber niveles elevados de gripe en comparación con los dos últimos años, en los que las precauciones para COVID-19 ayudaron a mantener bajos los contagios de gripe. The OUSD Board of Education approved a District Policy that prohibits dogs on campus, for the safety and health of all our students and staff. Please do not bring your dog if you walk your student to school.

Our school calendar for 2022-2023 has three additional non-student days on Mondays throughout the year.

The last date that students will not attend school will be 3/13/23.

Please keep these dates in mind and make necessary arrangements.

A huge thank you families for your patience during dismissal. We ask that you continue to follow our procedures to keep all students, families and staff safe.

We are asking you to be patient during arrival and dismissal due to excess traffic. We have set procedures for car drop off and pick up. No double parking will be allowed. This is for the safety of all students.

Arrival Reminders ALL Grades:

• Please drive up all the way up to drop off your student
• Please stay in your car as you drop off your student
• All parents stay in car lane to drop off your student and DO NOT cut off other cars in line or double park to get out and walk your child

Dismissal Reminders :

• Please drive up all the way up as staff will escort your student toward your car
• Please do not double park and ask your student to cross in between cars
• Please keep the line moving; your child will walk to your car

Back gate

• Opens for Arrival at 8:25 am for all students to come onto campus.
• Opens for Dismissal at 3:35 pm for only 1st to 5th grade students.
