** Repeat ** Hello Scenic Park Families,
Hi, my name is Marco Christian, and I am excited to be part of the Scenic Park Community as your Principal for the 2022/2023 school year. I was born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania (only minutes from Scranton, home of “The Office”) and moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 2001. I enjoy hunting, fishing, coaching baseball, flag football, and traveling with my family. I am married to my wife Joanne, a teacher in the Anchorage School District and together we have 2 children, Hunter 15 years old, a Sophomore at Service High School and Brooke 13 years old, a 7th grader at Hanshew Middle School. I currently serve as Assistant Principal at Fairview Elementary.
I graduated from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science. Upon graduating, I decided to move to Alaska with my brother to experience something new and different, and in July of 2001 we began our journey. I started substitute teaching the following year with the Anchorage School District, working at West High School as well as many Elementary Schools throughout the district. Working with students changed my career path and I decided to pursue an educational degree. I enrolled in Grand Canyon University and received my Masters in Elementary Education. I completed the program in 2009 and began my career with the Anchorage School District, working as an elementary classroom teacher in grades Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th. In 2021, I completed my studies in Educational Leadership and received a Master Degree through Grand Canyon University.
I am looking forward to meeting and working with the students, staff and families of the Scenic Park Community.
Sincerely,
Marco Christian
