Strong Alone, Unstoppable Together!

This past week was still part of our orientation weeks with students and families. We have handed out needed materials, hosted family meetings and made house visits. This next week, you will notice that we will be working toward implementing our full virtual schedule. By the end of the week, we should be trying our best to hit the 2-2.5 hours of live instruction. Please know that we are here to support you and your child with this new learning style. Though there may be hiccups and road blocks, we've got this! Our teachers are working to ensure that students are able to log in independently from age 5-11! We will get there- TOGETHER!

Remember live instruction, not pre-recorded links will be the primary instructional method this year and we will have both large and small group instruction, just like when the students are here at school. We have reserved the mornings for this live instruction and have worked with local daycare centers to help them understand the need for the children to be on their devices during this time. If your child needs additional support, there are afternoon small group sessions they will be invited to, and these are very important. Otherwise, the afternoons provide much flexibility (as seen in the schedule), so you can schedule your child’s independent practice time, recess time, lunch and digital practice whenever it best suits your family. Please feel comfortable asking your teacher any questions.

We have heard that not all of our FVES students have been given a pick up time/date for a device (if they requested one) yet. Please know that they are working their way from oldest to youngest and you will be contacted soon. Our staff at FVES does not have access to the schedule or have a heads up to when families are contacted. We do have the compassion to help support your child while you are waiting for a device and will make sure that they are given the opportunity to access the material when they get connected.

Here is a video that may provide additional support for you: How to Navigate the WCPSS Virtual Platforms and the link to WCPSS tech guide for families can be found here.

Throughout this newsletter, you will find ways to connect with our school family and ways to support your child(ren). We sincerely wish you well this week and hope to see you soon!
