Coloma Intermediate

CIS News March 23, 2020

I know that this past week has created unanticipated challenges for many families. As a Coloma Intermediate Staff, we hope that this newsletter finds all of our Comets safe and healthy. There have been many developments over the past week in regards to how we live and educate our students.

Our District has created a page within our website that contains all of the communication regarding the Mandated Closure. We will continue to monitor developments from the State of Michigan and the Department of Education and share information with our families as it becomes available.

All Building level offices closed on Friday, March 20th. If you need to contact the district, please call 269-468-2424 and leave a message. The district office will be handling all requests via appointment.

Virtual Spirit Week!

We miss our kids and would love to see their smiling faces. Our staff has created a Virtual Spirit Week for everyone to participate in. Send us your pictures via Google Classroom or Facebook.

Big picture

Student Assignments

Teachers will continue to provide online learning opportunities via e-mail, google classroom, and learning packets. The goal of the assignments is to continue the routine and structure of learning and to maintain current levels of learning. Teachers will continue to review and assess all of the work that is completed. If internet connection is an issue, please have your child continue their independent reading. If you have not received a learning packet, you can pick one up at our admin office. Please make an appointment before going to our admin office.

Online Practice for All Subject Areas

Coloma Intermediate students already use for math practice. The company has generously given students 90 days of access to Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies practice, as well. Students login with their regular IXL account.

SEL Activities

SEL activities are available on Ms. Nimtz’s school webpage for 4th & 5th grade students! Some of the activities include worksheets that review previous lessons from our Second Step SEL program, as well as a list of games, websites, and apps containing SEL and mindfulness activities. We encourage students and families to utilize these resources to continue practicing the SEL skills they’ve learned throughout the year.

4th Grade Music

If students have their own recorder at home, they can go to this website to access the book we use, “Be a Recorder Star.” It’s free for now! Then click LOGIN:

5th Grade Band

We wrote numbers to practice on the inside cover of their book, but students are encouraged to practice any/all numbers that we have covered.

Essential Elements Interactive-have your parent/guardian help you login here:

Mrs. Thomas will be working on this more this week. Look for an email from her. If you are not receiving the 5th Grade Band emails, please email her so you can get added to her contacts group: Thank you all & take care!

March is Reading Month

Literary Passports

Students can still earn prizes for reading during the month of March! Just remember that parents/guardians need to initial in the passports next to each book that is completed. When we return to school, students can bring in their passports to earn raffle tickets and the chance to win prizes. Remember, only books read during the month of March will earn raffle tickets, but that doesn't mean you can't read during April! Read as much as possible during our mandated closure!
Resources and Support for Families

The district has put together a list of community resources to help our families through this unprecedented time. If you or anyone you know in the area is in need of assistance, please visit this link to our webpage for more information.
