Due to COVID-19 and the distance learning directive from San Joaquin County, we are postponing the after-school GATE classes. Thank you for your patience as we are working through this unprecedented start to the school year.

Supporting Your Gifted Child During COVID-19

With COVID-19 still present, it is normal for a child to feel the impact of this traumatic experience. Here are some tips excerpted from

1) Avoid exposure to news and media, especially television and video.

2) Teach your child to be helpful. According to the article, Helping Others Dampens the Effects of Everyday Stress, “Providing help to friends, acquaintances, and even strangers can mitigate the impact of daily stressors on our emotions and our mental health, according to research published in Clinical Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science." Some examples are clean an elderly neighbor’s yard or take their trash cans to the street on trash days.

3) Encourage the whole family to exercise! Rhythmic exercises like walking or running help, as does listening to music and dancing.
