Greetings CALA Parents & Families!
Thank you for helping us begin the 2nd 9 weeks strong. Students were focused on learning. Report cards were posted to Skyward on Friday and parents received a paper copy sent home with students. Please sign the paper copy of the report card and send it back to school with your child by Tuesday of next week.
The counselor and I visited 3rd grade classrooms this week to refocus on anti-bullying mindsets and behaviors. Students were challenged to practice the techniques they learned to show leadership and kindness to one another.
2nd grade students were showcased in our PTA meeting last Thursday. They did a great job performing songs themed around Hispanic Heritage. We will have several more students receiving the leadership opportunity of filming their roles and focus on the 7 habits. As we continue through this 9 weeks, there will be a tendency to focus on the upcoming breaks. We all look forward to those. However, while we are in school we need everyone narrowly focused on learning and achieving academic success. We have 5 full weeks of instruction before the next break. Teachers will be scheduling parent conference meetings to ensure all parents know where their child stands academically on a variety of data points including behavior. They will also discuss how you can help your child and the teacher ensure academic and behavior success. Parent conferences are being scheduled from 10/14 - 11/17. They may take place in-person, over the phone, or via Zoom. Please plan to participate fully in the conference when you are invited. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and partnership.
Sincerely,
Jessica Linwood

Attendance Matters
Thank you very much or ensuring your child has their own mask each day! It has made a difference in our supplies this week alone!
Please continue to send your child with their own mask each day as we will be under a temporary mask mandate until further notice.
Please click the Schoolcafe link below to complete the school lunch application if you have not done so.
Color Guard
- We will be posting and lowering during an activity (arrival and dismissal) unless we anticipate inclement weather.
- Please continue to practice safety during this time and focus on safely transitioning your child prior to paying attention to the color guard.
- If you are in the driving lanes, please continue to move with the traffic.
- If you are in a safe place to do so, you are welcome to park in the parking lot if you decide to get out at salute the flags. Please do not park in any driving lane and get out.
- While we fully respect the tenets of using our country and state flag, we remember that these are children and not military cadets that we are teaching. They are learning the importance of caring for the flags and they will have supervision while abiding by the law. If they make a mistake, only one of our staff will address them.
food from students and parties
Birthday parties for children cannot be held at school. Other outside celebrations will be restricted this year due to Covid-19 and other variant concerns. The federal government has very strict guidelines for foods that are consumed at school, including holiday celebrations. At this time, parents may not bring store bought cupcakes in honor of their child’s birthday. No other outside food may be brought from students to share with the class. This includes for birthdays that occur later in the year if restrictions are lifted so no one feels left out. The classroom teacher may provide a recognition of the child’s birthday. The school will always recognize the student's birthday over the announcements and with a birthday pencil. Teachers are allowed to take 15 minutes per month to recognize the birthdays for the month.
When approved, teachers may accept monetary donations from parents to purchase snacks, etc. for other types of celebrations throughout the year.
