Learning Coaches, how can you help your child succeed?
Research has found that students are more successful in a virtual school environment when the following aspects have been considered.
1. Schedule - Plan a schedule for your student including work time, breaks, and meals.
2. Environment - Does your student have a location that they can go to work? This is preferably a spot that is free of distractions, with the appropriate equipment, and where they have all supplies needed.
3. Distractions - Some students need quiet while they are working, some need music while they are writing or while they are working through challenging problems. Sit down with your child and discuss what are household distractions (small siblings, video games, or TV) and collaborate on ways to combat these.
4. Presence - parent/guardians/learning coaches, students need to be held accountable for their time and effort. Be present to check up on their work, proofread their essays, and be a sounding board for frustrations and successes - and share them so that we too can celebrate with you or help come up with a solution.
5. Communication

5. Communication
- Students should have a list of phone numbers on hand for tech support, their teachers tutoring hours, my office number, and the middle school/high school office.
- Students and parents should upload the FREE Schoology app on their phones so that they can access course updates, messages, and schedule changes.
- students should check their school Gmail account daily for emails from me, your MCVA teachers, and administration.
- Advocate for your child, let me and the teachers know what you are seeing at home, and help us, help you!
