Class Officer and Student Body Officer Applications Available This Tuesday, April 19
Applications for incoming junior and senior class offices for next school year will available this Tuesday, April 19. Students wishing to run for class office for the Class of 2017 and Class of 2018 need to pick up an application in Mrs. Barnes classroom K109. Applications are due Thursday, May 5 by 4:00 PM.
Applications do take a while to complete so if you plan on running please pick them up soon. Class officers are responsible for fundraising, planning for their prom, as well as leading their class in school spirit. Class Officer Positions that are available for both incoming juniors and seniors include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian and Historian. See Mrs. Barnes for more information.
Elections for the Sophomore Class of 2019 will be run at the Ninth Grade Campus.
Student Council Members,
Applications will also be available for those of you wishing to run for Student Council Student Body office. Those are due on Thursday, May 5 as well and are in Mrs. Barnes room K109. You must have been an active member this school year to be eligible to run for office.

Attention Graduating Seniors
We want to highlight you in a new section of the newsletter called “Class of 2016: How About Those Roos!” We would like to publish a running list of our graduating seniors and the name of your college, university, technical school, or military branch you plan on attending next Fall. Also, we know that scholarship offers are rolling in and we would also like to publish a running list of the total value of college scholarships our seniors have been awarded.
Fill out the following form and let us know. This form will be available every week and can also be updated if needed.
City Lights Prom 2016 Information
TICKETS:
Prom is Saturday, April 21
Last week to buy Prom tickets for $100.
-You may buy tickets from Mrs. Thompson (K106) or Mrs. Nichols (front office) before school, after school or during Mega Lunch ONLY. You may pay with cash or check. If you pay with a check, make it out to: WHS Class of 2016.
DATES:
· Seniors may bring ONE date to prom.
· If your date does not attend WHS, you must fill out a DATE APPROVAL FORM and your date MUST turn in a letter of good standing from their high school principal to Mrs. Thompson (K106) before you can purchase a prom ticket. PROM DATE APPROVAL FORMS are due April 8th.
· Your date may NOT be OVER the age of 21. If your date is not enrolled in high school, you must submit a copy of their valid driver’s license to Mrs. Nichols in the front office before you can purchase a prom ticket. Your date MUST bring their license to prom to be allowed entry as your guest.
In the 2016 Prom Packet, you will find the Date Approval Form and dress code information. Prom packets are available in the front office and in K106.

Tux Delivery on Wednesday
Men’s Wearhouse will deliver order tuxes to the school on Wednesday, April 20 during lunch prom tuxes will be delivered from Men's Wearhouse and you will need to pick up your tux from the theater dressing room.
Maddie Dorris plans to attend and play basketball for South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
District Track Meet Results
The Lady Roos represented well at the District track meet Tuesday and Wednesday! They competed with pride and determination in one of the toughest districts in the state. Many girls set personal best performances in their events. As a team, the JV finished 5th and the varsity finished 4th. The following athletes qualified for the Area meet next Firday in Abilene:
Hanul Lewis in the 3200 (finished 2nd in time 12:40.58) and 1600 (finished 3rd with a time of 5:37.86)
Julie Griffin in the 100 m hurdles (finished 3rd with a time of 16.78)
Taylor Kuritz in the high jump (finished 3rd with a jump of 5’0”)
Tyler Bowman in Pole Vault (finished 2nd with a vault of 10’6”)
Cassidy Griffin in Pole Vault (finished 3rd with a vault of 9’0”)
Maddie Dorris in Shot Put (finished 3rd with a throw of 35’11”) and in Discus (finished 2nd with a throw of 106’2”)
Jenna Ford in Shot Put (finished 4th with a throw of 32’9” ) and Discus (finished 4th with a throw of 97’1”)
4 x 400 relay of Jericka Graves, Auburn Staples, Alyssa Wisdom, and Taylor Kuritz finished 4th with a time of 4:07.30
Outstanding JV Performances include:
Selah Blount- 1st in 100 hurdles and 1st in 300 hurdles
Chloe Haney- 3rd in 100 hurdles
Kelsie Vier- 1st in high jump

News from the WHS Theater Department
The WHS Theater Department received 7 nomination in the Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards for Seussical the Musical.
Those nominations were:
Best Actress: Emily Hatch
Best Supporting Actress: Claire Crenshaw
Best Supporting Actor: Jett Good
Best Featured Actress: Kelsie Schlosser
Best Featured Actor: Robert Chavez
Best Costumes: Kelsie Schlosser & Lauren James
Best Lighting: Ethan Holtz
This is the 5th year for the DSM HSMTA and our 3rd year to participate. It was their largest with 65 schools participating from Abilene to Waco. Our performance nominee kids participated in the Opening, Best Actor/Actress, and the Finale numbers. Weatherford, WHS, and the company of Seussical were well represented in this huge awards show.

We came away with our 1st DSM HSMTA Award.......Best Supporting Actress - Claire Crenshaw.
