She held the record this week.

Another book fair is in the books! A big THANK YOU to everyone that stopped by during the first night of conferences, or sent money to school for your child to purchase a book. If you missed it, do not fear! You can visit our book fair webpage and shop online through April 23rd. All orders placed will be shipped, free of charge, to the middle school and delivered to your child.
Have you ever tried listening to an audiobook? This summer would be a great time to start! AudioFile has a summer program for teens called SYNC, that will allow your student to download two FREE audiobooks each week from May 5th through August 17th. The books are pre-selected and paired as part of a theme. Once you download the books they are yours forever. You can sign up for email or text alerts and be the first to know when new titles are available to download at www.audiobooksync.com.
As always, feel free to contact me at tschenewerk@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns.

The 8th grade students enrolled in Computer Applications continued with their goal setting along with choosing strategies to help them reach their goals. This is a year long process, increasing 3 wpm each month. For April our benchmark goal is 37 wpm with 90% accuracy for the month.
7th and 8th grade Computer Applications met many objectives this week as they completed an April calendar using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. They formatted tables, text, and images to specifications.
7th and 8th grade "wheel" reviewed the Microsoft Excel spreadsheets through activities and assessments, along with practicing their keyboarding skills.
6th grade students participated in many activities while completing a Microsoft Word Excel unit. They were assessed on Thursday. Many 6th grade computer students are continuing to practice their keyboarding skills at home and it is paying off. Nice job!
All grade levels participated in an Hour of Code challenge on Friday.
Please feel free to contact me at jbailey@fulton58.org if you have any questions or concerns.

8th Graders are have started their altered book project which will take us about four or five weeks roughly. It was a confusing start for them as I expected, but they are doing a fantastic job getting started and problem solving and working out preliminary ideas. As with anything new, there is always hesitation, and fear of the unknown, but I have confidence they will turn out some really great things. They are off to a good start. This is one of my favorite lessons, and something that really teaches students how to enjoy the process of Art making.
7th Grade are working finished up oil pastels and are working on several cultural projects. We had a cave drawing day, and are moving into Australia with some Aboriginal Design
7th Grade Wheel classes are working on Illuminated letters as we continue with the "art about you" theme.
6th Grade are working to finish up on 3 pattern tessellations, and we will be working on one point perspective buildings.
WIN: ( 8th Grade Art Enrichment)Students are working on an artwork that conveys an emotion.

The Hornet Singers have shown great growth through the year thus far and I'm excited to see what they can do for their final performance of the year. The students will be starting in depth work on their new repertoire this week with the theme "I Dream A World".
SO proud of what this group continues to produce in the classroom everyday.
Harmony Hornets are having a great time at their weekly Tuesday rehearsals and can't wait to showcase all they've accomplished (and will accomplish) in May!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
Hornet Pride Choir (7th grade) has begun our final round of concert repertoire. We are working on a wide variety of repertoire selections, and are excited to share them. We are preparing two songs for Coach Turner's play that will be performed in May! Choir students ARE NOT required to participate in the play, but will know the music should they choose to volunteer their time for performances!
6th grade Arts Alive students have been Michael Jackson! We are learning about his life, his music, and his dance abilities. We are also practice our rhythm skills by learning the dance to "Thriller"! We are wrapping up our study of rhythm and music notation. We will have a test over rhythm in the coming week. Our next featured artists will be Luke Bryan and Silento.
7th and 8th grade Arts Alive classes recently studied Southern Rock. We listened to and evaluated the music to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Allman Borther Band, and The Charlie Daniels Band. We talked about the basic characteristics of Southern Rock, and its roots. We have begun our final concentration area: HEAVY METAL! We are listening, creating a list of characteristics, and learning music terminology in this unit of study. After we finish this concentration area, we will begin work on individual music genre projects!

This week 6th grade band will be focusing on learning new exercises in their book. The band has received sheet music for their next concert and they are so excited to show you what they have learned this year. Next year in 7th grade we will be finishing up what we can in the book and then moving on to book 2 of the Essential Elements Series. Please continue to encourage your student to take their instrument home and practice. Our next concert is scheduled for Thursday May 12 at 6:00 PM in the middle school gym. More information will be sent out as it becomes available.
7th grade band is still using book 2 in the Essential Elements series. Please make sure that if you have not bought a book that your student brings money to do so. Woodwinds and Brass are $8.00 and Percussion is $15.00. Please make sure you do this as soon as possible so your student can practice at home. Students are also working on more complex rhythmic patterns. Please make sure that you are encouraging your students to practice at home. The music is harder, and we are so excited that the band is stepping up! One of the pieces is a march and one of the pieces is a traditional folk song. The band is also getting pulled out one section at a time for sectionals. If your student feels that they need extra help or attention MS. Neudecker and myself are available for practice after school on Wednesday's from 3:30 - 4:30. The next concert is scheduled for Thursday May 12 in the middle school gym. More information will be sent home as it becomes available!
