Team Talk
The Road To Distinctions Week Of February 8, 2016
Early College at FDR
Along with our Health Science Magnet, we will now explore bringing two other components to the instructional program making it a more rigorous and robust program. Pathways to Technology or P-Tech is one component that bring us the best elements, of Early College High School, College, and the professional world. We are currently seeking a corporation to partner with the school in the area of technology and eventually having paid internship for scholars in the program.
The second component of the exploratory phase is the partnership the the Dallas Zoo for a Zoo Magnet. This magnet program would allow scholars to take advance science classes such as Advanced Animal Studies, Animal Behavior, along with a myriad of robust AP classes.
This will have a significant impact on our master schedule for next year as we have to plan fast. In the coming weeks you will hear about program plans as information is received. I have several meetings scheduled internally as well as externally to make this opportunity a reality. I will be coming to some staff members to solicit input on the process.
Key Action 1
Improve the quality of Instruction and increase student achievement through effective and purposeful lesson planning. (Linked to district key action# 2. Implement the TEI system, tying teacher evaluations to student achievement results).

These young ladies had the opportunity to put out a live fire and go through the rigorous training firefighters go through to keep the community safe.
The Real Firefighters of Roosevelt
When you see these young ladies, give them a pat on the back.
Saturday School
A very special thank you goes out to Ms. Mitchell for ensuring our credit recovery scholars had the opportunity to make up time according to the Principal's Plan.
"I Am Roosevelt, The Power of One"
Do your actions embody our core beliefs, values, and vision?
Values:
Sense of urgency
Commitment
Development of the craft
Vision
Franklin D. Roosevelt will improve the quality of instruction for all scholars by committing to developing, supporting, and monitoring systems that will transform our community to embody a culture that leads our scholars to college and post- secondary success.
Pre-Observation Conversations
The time is nearing for extended observations. Before you have your extended, you will be given a 10 day window.
It was suggested during Mustang Academy, that teachers have a pre-observation conversation. With that being said, teachers will have a mid-year conference that will begin this week. A power point template was sent to the entire staff with directions on how to fill it out.
A calendar invite will be developed and sent out early this week.
Look For's
- Good First Instruction
- LO/DOL alignment matching the TEKS/SE
- Student engagement
- Maximizing of instruction
It is suggested that you continue to review the rubric not just for the spot observation indicators, but domain 2.4 checking for academic understanding and 2.6 for activating higher order thinking skills.
Student Engagement Walks
During Mustang Academy, several teachers expressed the desire to visit other teachers classrooms. On the January campus climate survey 6.1% of teachers stated that they were able to see others in action with 48.3% saying they never get the opportunity.
In conjunction with the mid-year presentations, we are going to bring back the engagement walks to allow your colleagues to glean ideas from one another for their own teaching.
I was happy to hear that you wanted this opportunity and we will make it happen.
Motown Academic Review

Pathway To Impact
Our scholars deserve our best work. Let's ensure that we come together and honor our meeting norms to accomplish daily task while in PLC's. We are professionals who bring many talents to the table.
This week let's focus on our curriculum map that will give us a path to follow as we create a pathway for our scholars.
Let's continue to blaze a pathway that will have a profound impact for our scholars. We must provide the platform that gives our scholars hope because, "Hope Lives Here".
