High Reliability Schools(HRS) and the Iowa City Community School District

In order to achieve our goals of excellence and equity for all students, we have adopted a new school improvement model called High Reliability Schools. High Reliability Schools is a framework that supports fulfilling our vision of equitable outcomes for all students. It gives us a common language to name what we’re doing, assess our current reality, align our initiatives, and determine where to go next. It is a vehicle that allows us to balance shared responsibility and autonomy to make decisions that best meet the needs of all our students.

We are excited to get this work started and we are excited to partner in this process with all of you! We value the voice of our school community and we want to make sure that your experiences are reflected in our High Reliability Schools implementation. Throughout the year, there will be multiple opportunities for our students, families, and staff to provide feedback that will inform the work that we do. Please stay tuned for information on these opportunities. We look forward to partnering with you on this exciting new adventure!

A note from our school counselor-

Hello Weber Families!

This is a message from Mrs. Dean, your School Counselor. We also have another counselor, Mrs. Cequeira, who is here on Tuesdays and Thursdays to help support our students. As many of you know, part of my role as a School Counselor is to have small social-emotional learning groups with students. These are typically 15-20 minute groups during the school day at a time key instruction is not missed (typically once a week). I work with all students, so any student could potentially be asked to join a group as a role model or friend. Since running small groups with students is a typical part of my role, I am asking that you respond to me only if you DO NOT want your child to be part of any groups this year. If you would like me to let you know first, let me know that too. And, as always, feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns.

Volunteering at Weber

If you would like to volunteer at Weber, please make sure you complete the volunteer form. See the message below on how to complete the form.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Iowa City Community Schools. We appreciate your willingness to donate your time to any of our buildings. Please complete the online application. This provides us with basic information about you, your interests, and your availability. It also includes a Criminal Records check and Child Abuse check. You will receive an email confirmation when your application has been approved.

  • Note: All previously approved volunteers for the Iowa City Community School District will be required to update their application for the 2021-22 school year.

If you have any questions, please contact your child's school or the school you wish to volunteer with.

Please note that application works best with Google Chrome. Feel free to contact Human Resources at (319)688-1005 with any questions or concerns.

To offer feedback please click here to complete a google form or reach out directly to Travis Dyer: You can reach me multiple ways: In person - stop in anytime, by phone - 319 688-1170 or by email at dyer.travis@iowacityschools.org

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Morning drop off:

  • Outside supervision officially begins at 7:40. If you arrive earlier than that, please know that our supervision is limited.

  • Please drive slowly!

    • There are many staff members (and their children) crossing the lane after they park.

  • Keep the traffic flow moving: Pull all the way up in the line when possible.

    • Students can walk to the breakfast area from any drop off location.

  • Please stay in your car when possible - Let a staff member know if you need help unloading your children and we will gladly help.

  • Please have your children exit onto the sidewalk and not into the car lane.

  • When the line is slow moving please be patient.

  • Once you have dropped your child off into the unloading zone you may safely pull into the left lane to exit the parking lot.

After school Pick Up:

  • The school day ends at 2:55 (1:55 on Thursdays).

  • Please drive slowly!

  • Keep the traffic flow moving: Pull all the way up in the line when possible.

  • Please stay in your vehicle - Let a staff member know if you need help loading your children and we will gladly help.

  • Please have your children enter your vehicle from the sidewalk.

  • When the line is slow moving please be patient.

  • Once you have picked your child up from the loading zone you may safely pull into the left lane to exit the parking lot.

  • We are directing traffic at the exit to help clear our lot as quickly as possible.

    • Please pay close attention to our directions and we will do our best to keep things moving.

Things to avoid:

  • Getting angry and/or yelling at our staff.

    • This doesn’t help anyone!

  • Please do not park on Rohret Road.

    • This is a traffic violation and it impedes our ability to keep traffic flowing.

  • Please do not turn around in the middle of Rohret Road.

    • This is a traffic violation.

    • There are a number of driveways and a parking lot to turn around in just down the street.

  • Please avoid picking your children up early to skip the car line.

    • Please contact Travis Dyer to discuss other available options.

How can you help?

  • Remind your children to get out to the front bike racks as quickly as possible.

  • Create a sign with the names and grades of your children. (Cardstock and a marker will be provided for you to create one while you wait in car line this week)

    • Place that sign in your front windshield or passenger side window.

If you are parking on the side streets:

  • Please drive with extreme caution.

  • Please be mindful of the traffic laws.

    • Do not speed.

    • Park in specified parking locations.

  • Take extra precautions to ensure the safety of all children.

  • Be patient.

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications for this School Year-

We would like to share information with you regarding meal costs for the 2022-23 school year. Unfortunately, the government-funded free meal program for all students that was established during the COVID-19 pandemic will come to an end at the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year. This means that there will now be a cost associated with school meals for all families who do not meet the Free & Reduced Meal requirements when school begins next fall.

We understand this change may cause concern; however, there are important steps you can take today to make sure your student receives the meals they need next year.

  1. Complete an application for Free & Reduced Meals. If your student qualifies for free or reduced meals, they can still receive them next year, but you must take action to make it happen. The 2022-2023 online application will be available on our District’s website after July 1, 2022, at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict. Even if you completed the 2021-2022 application, you will still need to complete the 2022-2023 application as well. If you need assistance completing this form, please contact the Nutrition Services Department at (319) 688-1021.

  2. Families that do not qualify for free or reduced meals can begin depositing money into their student’s meal account by logging into MySchoolBucks.com to prepare for the cost of school lunches next year. Information on meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year can be found at www.iowacityschools.org/MealPrices. If you have questions about adding money to your student’s account or if you need assistance accessing MySchoolBucks, please contact the Nutrition Services Department at (319) 688-1021.
School Supply Lists, 2022-2023

Please find your child's school supply list by grade level below. If you need assistance obtaining supplies for your student, contact the school office or Student & Family Advocate.
