Pandemic Educational Benefit Transfer: Qualifying families receive approximately $6.82 per day per student for each day in distance learning.
Families in our school district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new benefits.
However, if your family income has been affected by the pandemic and you have not completed an Application for Educational Benefits (free or reduced-price meal application) for this school year, please complete and submit your application by Feb. 28, 2021.
These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT) and will be provided to any family who qualifies for free and reduced-price meals this school year. These additional benefits will be retroactive to September 2020. We urge families to apply right away.
Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards will be mailed from the State of Minnesota in late March 2021.

We understand that this is a time of great uncertainty for college and career planning. Many colleges are changing not only their admission requirements, but how they work with prospective students. Colleges across the nation are also becoming ‘test optional’ and ‘test blind or test free’. Test optional means students have the choice of if they wish to submit a test score and would not be penalized if they do not. Test blind or test free means those colleges will not review any test score as part of their admission or scholarship process. Some have been this way for years and others are making this change in light of circumstances and the pandemic. To see the full list of colleges that are test optional, please visit: https://fairtest.org/university/optional . As always it is a family choice as to whether their student wishes to take the PreACT or ACT.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Jena Hitt, Laura Horton, or Suze Fulford.

NEW: EVHS Winter Sports Postseason Updates 3.7.21
One year ago the first case of COVID-19 showed up in Minnesota…….and as we all know all too well the last 365 days have been unlike anyone could have ever predicted. As a result, the last winter state tournaments of 2020 and all spring sports in 2020 ended up being shut down completely. Then this fall, our teams had a chance to participate in a regular season, and for some even a section tournament, but there were no State Tournaments. So for the first time in a calendar year, here are some postseason athletic updates that include the potential for a state tournament…….albeit a VERY different looking one. Congrats to all of our student participants and coaches on making the most of this very challenging year.
Alpine Skiing: The Lightning Boys competed in Section 3 Race #2 last Tuesday at Buck Hill. The team was led by Ryan Whalen, who placed 5th in Race #2 and earned a return trip to State! The Girls competed in Section 3 Race #1 on Wednesday at Buck Hill. The girls were led by Kate Young who placed 3rd in Race 1 and Megan Young who placed 4th in Race 1! As a result of their finish both are State Qualifiers. The State Alpine Meet will be held Tuesday, March 9th at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.
Boys Basketball: The boys are having another outstanding season and are ranked among the best teams in the State. They are 14-2, have clinched a share of the SSC Title, and can clinch outright with one more win in their remaining two games. Their playoffs will be held all at High Seeds on March 17, 19 and 24. State Quarterfinals will be played at Regional Sites on March 30-31, State Semis at Target Center April 6-8 and State Finals April 9-10 at Target Center.
Girls Basketball: The girls have one week left in the regular season and are 8-8 and among the top seeds in Section 3AAAA. Their playoffs are Sections at High Seeds on March 17, 19 and 24. State Quarterfinals will be played at Regional Sites on March 30-31, State Semis at Target Center April 6-8 and State Finals April 9-10 at Target Center.
Competition Cheer: Congratulations to the Varsity Comp Cheer Team coached by Tim and Mario Navarro who placed 5th last weekend at the MCCA State Championships in the Game Day Non-Tumbling Division.
Dance Team: Congrats to the Lightning Dance Team who clinched their 19th SSC Championship in a row two weeks ago and then competed yesterday at Bloomington Kennedy against 13 other teams in the Section 1AAA High Kick and Jazz Tournament. The event this year was spread out throughout the day to accommodate the COVID protocols. The Lightning were once again crowned Section Champions in BOTH Jazz and High Kick to earn a return trip to state in both divisions! They will compete in State Jazz on Friday morning and State High Kick on Saturday morning, both at Edina High School. Exact time and performance order is still TBD, but unlike previous years there is no prelims and finals, but instead just one performance. The State Tournament will be available to webstream for a fee at www.prepspotlight.tv The Lightning have now qualified for state 24 years in a row……every single year since Eastview has been open! Saturday was their 34th and 35th Section titles overall. Congrats to all athletes and coaches on another amazing season and good luck at State!
Gymnastics: The AV-EV Gymnasts have wrapped up their regular season and will compete in Sections on March 19 at Park High School. The State Meet will be held March 26-27 at Champlin Park High School.
Boys Hockey: The boys’ hockey team currently has a record of 5-11 with one week to go in their regular season. Their Section Tournament will be played at High Seeds on March 17, 19 and 24 and their State Tournament will be at Xcel Center on March 30-April 3
Girls’ Hockey: The girls’ hockey team is currently 10-3-2 on the year with one week remaining. Section Games at High Seeds on March 16, 18, 20 and their State Tournament will be at Xcel Center on March 26-27, April 1 and April 3.
Nordic Skiing: Congratulations to the Eastview-Eagan Girls Nordic Ski team placing 2nd Overall in the SSC Standings and also placed 2nd as a team at the Section 1 Meet and are headed back to State for the 8th straight year! They will compete at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik next Thursday afternoon. The Lightning were led by Emily Percival (6th Overall), Grace Swenson (16th Overall), Liza Kerndt (25th Overall and Kate Helou (28th Overall). Other Eastview team members were Mara Ristow and Ava Kerndt. Good Luck at State! The ISD Boys team had strong Section Performances from Ethan Taylor (24th Overall) and Jack Hanson (30th Overall). Congrats on a great season guys!
Swim and Dive: The Boys Swim and Dive regular season has wrapped up and was highlighted by Senior Diver Alex Sulistyo shattering the Pool and School Diving records! The Section Meet is Wednesday at Bluewater Aquatic Center for the 196 “pod.” Their State Meet will be held March 18-21 at the U of M.
Wrestling: The Eastview Wrestling Team wrapped up the regular season with a 17-11 record and will compete in Team Sections on Wednesday, March 10th. They are the #4 Team Seed and will face #5 Lakeville South in the opening round at Shakopee. Individual Sections will take place on Wednesday, March 17 at Shakopee and the Lightning expect to have a few top seeds in this incredibly talented section. Their State Team Prelims will be at New Prague on March 13th, State Individual Prelims at Farmington on March 20th and State Finals March 25-27 at St. Michael Albertville.
NEW: Athletics Scoreboard Results
GIRLS VARSITY HOCKEY BEAT LAKEVILLE NORTH 3-1 (MAR. 6)
The 11th ranked Lightning fended off a stiff challenge from Lakeville North on Saturday at AVSA. After conceding the first goal of the game, the Lightning tallied three times, two from junior Avery Chesek, to pull away for the victory.
The Panthers scored the only goal of the first and it was only one goal for the visitors due to the excellent play of junior goaltender Angie Lombardi. Not only did Lombardi turn away a number of strong shots, but she also stone-walled a Panthers forward on a penalty shot. After one, the shots on goal were 8-13.
In the second, the Lightning struck twice to take the lead. At 1:23, senior Brynn Swenson carried the puck into the Panthers’ zone and ripped it past the goalie at the near post, unassisted. At 16:44, senior Lainey Dwinnell sprung senior Mikayla Kelley and Chesek on a two on one. Kelley took Dwinnell’s pass, forced the Panthers defense to commit and then hit Chesek with a perfect dime in the slot where Chesek buried the puck in the net. After two, it was 2-1 and the shots were 17-18. The second period also found the Lightning penalty kill hard at work as they successfully extinguished a 5 minute Panthers’ power play.
The Lightning scored the only goal in the third. At 9:05 of the period, junior Nora Stepan carried the puck into the Panthers zone and found junior Dani Farrington at the point. Farrington took a blast at the net and Chesek poked in the rebound to make it 3-1. The final shots were 25-30; a 29 save performance for Lombardi.
The win moves the Lightning to 10-3-2 on the season and 9-3-2 in the SSC.
Next up: the Lightning play three times in the final week of the regular season starting with a district, SSC, section tilt at Eagan on Tuesday, March 9. Game time is 7:00. Let’s Go!! Go Lightning!! #WhyNotUs
