Presidents' Day Pondering
Hello Everyone,
This Monday is President’s Day...That got me thinking about past presidents and what made them unique and special. Jimmy Carter, who is often overlooked, was the most peaceful. Not one bomb dropped or war entered. He put solar panels on the White House, and, even today, he builds houses for Habitat for Humanity, at 96 years old!.
Barack Obama was the first person of color to be elected President of the US. Teddy Roosevelt started the National Parks. James Madison was Princeton’s first Graduate Student, while Andrew Johnson never attended school and even taught himself to read. Benjamin Harrison was the first President to have electricity in the WH. Kamala Harris marks the first time a woman (and a woman of color) has ascended to the VP spot. The list of these unique facts is as long as the list of men who have held the office, but they all share something in common (besides being men). They were risk-takers. They inspired others to step into the unknown and give it a try.
Like US presidents, we work to inspire our students and ourselves to take risks. As parents and educators who prepare students for a changing world, in an ever-changing environment, we take risks just being here! What if we fail? What if we get it wrong? What if we miss something? You know what, we might. But, as any president might tell you, that’s OK. If you come from the right place and never give up, you’ll get there eventually. As much as we might try, there is no blueprint for every kid or situation. So, with your help and our efforts, we will help all of our students be successful!
Enjoy your weekend,
Mr. Fulce
Sr. Fulce

PRACTICE STAAR TESTING NEXT WEEK! / PRÁCTICA DE PRUEBAS STAAR LA PRÓXIMA SEMANA!
ECISD will be having practice STAAR exams, this week, on Tues 2/16-Thursday 2/18. This is KEY to our success because this year's tests will be entirely computer-based. This practice will ensure that all students both know the format of the test and to ensure that we can make it go smoothly during the real thing.
This means that:
- All Grade 7 Students, including virtual students, MUST come to school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday;
- All Grade 6 and 8 Students, including virtual, MUST come to school on Wednesday and Thursday.
- All Students MUST Bring Their Chromebook to school on these days.
- Virtual Students will be released after the practice tests (or allowed to remain on campus those days).
Please plan to have your students on campus, with technology, and ready to test next week!
Padres
- Todos los estudiantes del grado 7, incluidos los estudiantes virtuales, DEBEN venir a la escuela los martes, miércoles y jueves;
Parents-Is your virtual student failing or not attending classes? We will be in contact!
We will be sending home both email and physical letters notifying some of you that your student will be expected to return to school on February 22. Those students who have consistently been failing or not attending classes will be asked to return to school, in accordance with ECISD and TEA guidance. There will be an appeals process for health reasons, outlined in our communication.
This decision has not been taken lightly, but given the importance of their learning, we want to make sure that they are given the opportunity to be successful.
Hoodies are NOT ALLOWED in the building. Take it off before you enter, please.
