Newsletter - Week 7, Term 2

Greenmeadows School 15th June 2022

Tēnā koutou kātoa,

The winter winds are chilling things off to a degree, but it has been valuable being able to have the children outside at most break times.

Two big events are heading our way before the end of the school term:

- Matariki at school Wednesday 22 June 5.00pm to 7.00pm

- Parent interviews: Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 July. Please note the school will end at 2.00pm on both Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th July to allow the time to start our interviews.

More information on both is set out below.

Have a great end to the week.

Ka kite anō,

Mark Johnson

A very warm welcome to the four new students who started with us this week. They are Hansi and Randula Alupotha Arachchilage, Selai Kacivi and Mila Ross. Our roll is now at 457 pupils.

Great to have you here at GMS!!

MIDYEAR PARENT INTERVIEWS - Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 July 2022

In just over two and a half weeks the whole school will be holding parent-teacher interviews. We urge all families to participate in these interviews and have set aside two afternoons and evenings for these to occur:

Monday 4 July 2.15 pm – 7.15 pm Tuesday 5 July 2.15 pm – 6.30 pm

You can request an interview by using our online booking program:

  • Go to our school website and click on the ‘Parent – Teacher Interviews 2022’ tab.

  • There you will see instructions to take you to the interview booking website, along with the necessary code for booking dates and times at our school (remember to use the school code which is k62zc)

  • Once your booking is completed you will receive an email confirming your interview. These details can be rescheduled if your availability changes.

If you are unable to access the school’s website, then you can ring, or visit, the school office and Carolyn or Sara will book a time for you.

We expect a 100% attendance of families at these interviews, so please let us know of any difficulties you may be having booking a time.

Each child will have a summary sheet of their achievements and progress so far this year prepared for them available at the interview.

Because of the interviews, school will close early at 2.00pm on the afternoons of Monday 4th July and Tuesday 5th July.

We have a supply of uniforms that we give out to children when they slip over in the wet ... or play too closely to the mud. BUT we are not getting these items returned - especially the smaller sizes. Can we please get these sent back to school ASAP?

Many thanks.

We are just about to start a competition to collect the most bottle tops and caps. Milk bottle lids, wine bottle tops, any metal bottle caps (that includes beer) can be collected from now on to raise valuable funds for our new playground. Keep them at home for the moment until the competition officially begins in term 3, we will have more details to share with you soon.

MATARIKI EVENING - Wednesday 22nd June 2022 5.00pm to 7.00pm

Our school will celebrate Matariki with a function here at school that all are invited to.

There will be food and drink on sale. Things on sale include sausages and vegetable soup, as well as marshmallows for toasting!

So plan to wrap up warmly, bring a torch along and come to be part of this activity.

We are aiming to make this event as environmentally friendly as possible. To help reduce waste we ask that you bring a cup/mug from home to purchase your soup in. This way we don't have to throw away hundreds of cups.

The PTA are looking for helpers to cook the food and run the stalls - can you help?

Please let the office know if you can spare half an hour in any of these time slots 5-5.30, 5.30-6, 6-6.30, 6.30-7.00pm.

We will use cash for our food sales (and not the cash cards we have used the past few functions).

Families can arrive for food from 5.00pm before we start proceedings at 5.30pm under He Kapua. Our kapa haka group will perform to conclude the night.
