ELM MIDDLE SCHOOL’S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
September 23, 2022
Principal's Message
Greetings Elm Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful week! It was a busy time at Elm with 7th grade Scientist learning about molecule recipes, 6th graders diving into figurative language and 8th graders comparing and contrasting John Locke & Thomas Hobbes; all of this while we were in full AimsWeb testing. It is truly incredible what our students can do.
We have a big week next week at Elm; the Book Fair is Monday; Wednesday our 8th Graders will be taking their PSAT, and on Friday our high schooler mentors will be coming over to offer Snowflake to our upper classman. Parents, it is important for your 8th graders to be in attendance everyday but especially on Wednesday as we will utilize this data to place students in high school courses.
Please take a few minutes to read through this week’s Cougar Courier. As always, should you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. Stay safe! #TeamElmStrong
Most Sincerely,
Ms. Ashley Groeneveld
Assistant Principal's Corner
This week, two stellar Elm Middle School leaders, Zayd Lahlou-Nabil and Valeria Hernandez, presented to our school board regarding our first month of school. They shared what it means to be an upstanding member of the Elm School Community as well as the amazing activities that took place during the few weeks of school. These young adults did a tremendous job organizing their presentation and representing our school. Congrats to our two outstanding Cougars!

To all families with bus riders- please take a moment to watch this video in regards to Transportation.
Also, in regards to absences. Per the District Handbook- If a student is called in for an excused absence for more than 2 consecutive days, a doctor's note is required to keep the absences excused.
Finally, we have had some instances of students bringing to school Paqui Chips. They typically are purchased as a single chip, with a skeleton on the front and a warning on the back. There is a tiktok trend of students eating these at lunch. These chips are not safe for our students (getting in eyes, stomach pain, asthmatic attacks), and we kindly ask that these are not brought to school. Thank you!
Have a great weekend!
Mr. Goodman- Dean of Students
Cougar Connections
Teachers will invite 6-8 students to remain at school from 2:09pm-3:15pm to receive focused grade-level support for any subject area offered at Elm Middle School. Parent/Guardians will receive notification if their student has been invited to Cougar Connections along with their students. We are excited to offer this as an additional academic opportunity for our students.
