Math Coach Updates!
March 12, 2015
Hi! Let me introduce myself.
I am your new math coach. I am coming to you from Adams Elementary where I was a Title I Math Specialist. I began my new job as math coach on February 16. I believe I may have brought all that snow right along with me! You're welcome or I'm sorry depending on your outlook. ;) Since then, I have been working on Mondays and Tuesdays at Lakeside Elementary. Within the last 2 weeks, the benchmark data helped identify my 3 newest schools. I will be at Laburnum every Thursday. I will be alternating Wednesdays with Chamberlayne and Ridge. On Fridays I have meetings, projects, and some opportunity to meet more with my assigned schools. I am looking forward to working with you!
So how can a Math Coach help me?
Below are some of the services I offer:
- unpacking standards
- planning units
- assistance in assessment creation
- observations/feedback
- lesson plans/feedback
- staff development
- math resources
- lesson modeling
- remediation planning
- assistance creating strategic groups
- communication regarding state & local assessments
- data analysis
Feel free to email me if you'd like any of the above or if you just have questions.
CCT Updates
- At our last CCT Meeting we learned that the "Select All" TEI question was the most challenging question type for students across the county. As a result, your CCT representatives worked in teams to create more of these questions for students in grades 2-5 on Interactive Achievement. These questions are now available for teachers on IA.
- 2nd grade teachers please keep in mind that the Math HAT will not be read aloud to your students in the Spring unless the student has an IEP where that is listed as an accommodation.
- Vickie Bohidar, our new Educational Specialist for Math, sent out K-2 screener suggestions based on student performance. Even if your school or grade did not use the screener mid-year, you will find that the suggested Kathy Richardson activities listed can help you to strategically plan next steps for your students.
Math Resources
A teacher just shared a great problem solving/class personalization tool.
- Go to www.commoncoresheets.com
- Scroll down to the bottom left where it says “Other Stuff”.
Click on “My Class”. Enter your students’ names.
Then when you go to multi-step problems, click on “Create a new sheet” your students’ names will be in the problems.
If you are not 100% sure you are using the most up-to- date curriculum framework please bookmark the following: http://blogs.henrico.k12.va.us/elementarymath/curriculum-framework/
