Term 2 - Issue 9 24th June 2021
PRAYER
TERM 3 BEGINS TUESDAY 20th JULY
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Welcome to the last newsletter of Term 2! The children have worked extremely hard over the last eleven, busy weeks and are well deserving of the two week holiday break in July. Thank you to all the parents and families for their continued support as we have navigated another jam packed term. The great news is next week, we will celebrate our annual WellBeing Week with a number of energising and engaging activities to promote mental health and well being. See the attached photo for the exciting week ahead! Thank you to Mrs Liz Ward and her team of staff for coordinating - we can't wait!
MEDIA RELEASE
After the recent State Election, Cabinet Portfolios have now been confirmed and Catholic Education WA has continued to advocate for our system in receiving equitable support from the State Government in comparison to Department of Education schools. Whilst the impact of COVID is still being felt by many families across the state, there is a growing call for the McGowan Government to provide more equitable funding for Catholic Schools. A recent media release outlines the enormous contribution Catholic Schools make towards education in WA and the push for fairer funding from the government. To read the release, please click here:
SEMESTER ONE REPORTS
Thank you to all parents who have set up their Seqta Engage Parent account to access their child's Semester One Academic report. Parent interviews took place today and it is great to see a number of parents take the opportunity to discuss the progress of their children. If you have yet to view the academic report and require assistance, please contact mailto:ithelp@stfrancisbutler.wa.edu.au. If you were unavailable to meet during the designated parent interview times, please contact your class teacher to organise a mutually convenient alternative.
LEAVING STUDENTS
At the conclusion of this term, we will sadly farewell a number of children who, for various reasons, will be departing the St Francis of Assisi community:
- Mabel (PPB), Elliott (3W) and Fletcher Ashworth (5W)
- Emanuel Chirikure (3W)
We wish the Ashworth's and Emanuel all the best at their new schools and look forward to hearing of their success in future years!
UNIFORM SHOP - TRACKSUIT PANTS ARE HERE!
After some lengthy delays due to COVID and international shipping and quarantine, the school tracksuit pants are available now in the uniform shop! We are still awaiting the arrival of the sports jackets, but track pants are available for purchase. Children are now expected to wear the track pants should they be cold on sports days, rather than leggings or alternative sportswear.
ST VINNIES WINTER APPEAL
As the cold snap continues, it is a great time to donate Winter clothing at your closest Vinnies shop. St Vinnies is a wonderful charity that supports our most marginalised and vulnerable in the community. If you are doing a winter wardrobe cleanout and have items to donate to help others stay warm this winter, please visit the link for more information http://vinnieswa.org.au. Ms Campbell has some details below about items you can bring to the office to support the Winter Appeal.
FRIENDS OF FRANCIS - Lunch with Leadership Thursday 1st July
We're excited to announce that next week, we will be hosting our very first 'Lunch with Leadership', where our raffle winners will get to indulge with Mr Clarke, Ms Campbell and Mr Baker in the new courtyard behind my office! The winning faction was rewarded with an extra 30 minutes of play and an icecream today.
As this will be the last newsletter for the term, wishing all our families and children a safe, relaxing holiday break. We hope you have a few pyjama and Netflix days in the cold weather and parents enjoy the break from washing and ironing uniforms and preparing those lunches. Finishing the term on Wellbeing Week will be a great lead in to recharging over the holidays for Term 3. For a comprehensive list of events in Term 3, please see the attached document below and make note of any important and relevant days/dates for your children and family!
West Coast and Freo are back in action this weekend, along with the NBA Conference Finals. Throw in State of Origin II and things are looking up in the Baker Household over the coming weeks! Have a wonderful and safe holiday break.
Best wishes

Friends of Francis - Week 8 Winners
Congratulations to Molly (Year 6B), Apiny (Year 6W), Jessica (Year 4W), Elliot (Year 3W), James (Year 2B), Sanchez (Year 2B), Penelope (PPB) and Mabel (PPB). They received a Friends of Francis Certificate and a Lunch with Leadership Invitation which will be held Thursday 1st July.
We will celebrate Wellbeing Week in Week 11, 28th Jun-2nd July. This week will provide opportunities for our students to explore their overall awareness for the wide-ranging aspects of wellbeing, including social, physical, emotional, community and environmental wellbeing. Please refer to the letter that was sent home and posted on Seesaw with details about the fun activities we have planned for our students. It will be a wonderful way to end Term 2.
Please find a list of fun mindfulness activities you can enjoy as a family. Mindfulness is noticing what’s going on outside—and inside—of us with acceptance and kindness. As mindful parents, you can be curious and open to understanding what your child is feeling and experiencing. The activities are designed to help both you and your child experience a sense of calm connection.
- Send kind wishes to 5 people.
- Blow bubbles ‘slo-mo’ style, emphasizing a big deep breath in through the nose to fill the bubble… and out through the mouth as slow as possible.
- Squeeze and let go, tensing different muscles in the body for 5 seconds and then slowing releasing.
- Tune into the body by getting down on your child’s level and feeling each other’s heartbeats.
- Have a ‘mindful’ snack by describing the smell, texture and taste of the food.
- Explore textures in nature, take a walk to collect several different objects and observe/describe how each feels.
- Find shapes in the sky by laying down together and choosing different objects to search for in the clouds.
- Take a mindful walk pointing out sights and sounds along the way.
- Try ‘buddy breathing’ and invite your child to grab a toy/stuffed animal to place on their tummy while they lay down and take slow breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth.
- Use a happy moment to ‘soak in the good’ by pausing with your child to observe the pleasant physical and emotional feelings present.
- Sit down with your child and ‘colour your feelings’ together depicting each emotion with a new colour.
- Explore gratitude by going back and forth with your child (for as long as you can!) to name as many things possible that you are grateful for.
- Bang on a pot/pan and invite your child to signal to you when they no longer hear the sound ‘hanging’ the air.
- Try a guided meditation app to wind down at bedtime.
- Practice noticing with art. Choose several different utensils and describe how they all feel different on the paper.
- Explore smell by inviting your child to help you cook a meal while taking notice of each smell present.
- Explore emotion by prompting your child to scan their body when experiencing a feeling and describe where they feel it the most.
- Listen to some music and see how many different instruments you can each hear.
