Welcome back, Pirates!
Like you, we simply cannot believe school is only days away. We have had a busy summer, planning and preparing for an incredible 2019-2020 school year and we are excited to have our kiddos back in our hallways so that we can get this party started!
Over the summer, we have been deeply blessed. Our campus has grown by a little over 100 students. Along with these newly-enrolled kids, we have added around 20 additional employees to continue providing exceptional services and supports for our students. As a staff family, we are committed to loving your children deeply and serving your families well. Having new members of our team will ensure we are able to fulfill our mission.
One important new member of our East family is our new Assistant Principal, April Baucum. Mrs. Baucum comes to us from South Elementary where she served as an Administrative Intern for the 2018-2019 school year. Prior to that experience, Mrs. Baucum taught PK at Central Elementary. She taught several grade levels in Lubbock ISD prior to coming to Lubbock-Cooper, as well. I know you will enjoy getting to know April and her family and working with her this year. The Baucum family has two little boys who attend East Elementary: Collin, a first-grade student, and Carter, a prekindergarten student.
Here at East, our focus for the year is "Fully Known, Deeply Loved." In a quest to continue building strong relationships with our families, knowing our students as individual members of our campus, and capitalizing the strengths of each child, we are excited to make this our mission. We fully understand that the love we have for our students lays a strong foundation for their success here at school. Our hearts are ready to meet your precious children and begin making incredible memories with them this year!
Thank you for allowing us to serve your family this year. It is an honor to be entrusted with your children and to have the opportunity to partner with you. We are blessed to be part of the Lubbock-Cooper East community.
It is a great day to be a Pirate!

Open House - Monday, August 12
For a less-overwhelming experience with a smaller crowd, our PK and Kindergarten students along with our PPCD and Life Skills students are invited to attend their very own, smaller Open House from 9:00-10:00 on Monday morning.
Grades 1-5 are invited to join us for our larger Open House event on Monday night from 6:00-7:00.
Feel free to bring any school supplies you have ready to Open House! Dropping off your supplies will make the first day back much smoother for students and parents alike! #momwin
School Supply Lists
Paper copies of this supply list will also be available for pick up at Open House.
2019-2020 East Elementary Campus Map
Please note that 3rd grade has moved upstairs this year and 4th and 5th grade have split into their own neighborhoods upstairs, as well.
Paper copies of the updated map will be available for pick up at Open House.

East Elementary House System
At East Elementary, we utilize a House System to support connections across our campus. A “House System” is an underlying organizing structure that serves to unify students across grade levels and groups, leading to meaningful and lasting relationships.
The House System remains in place beyond the current school year. House assignments remain for the duration of the system for all students and staff members. Once a student has been assigned to a House, the child will be part of that House until they complete fifth grade here at East.
House names and colors are as follows:
Gamma, Red
Omega, Blue
Sigma, Yellow
Delta, Green
Theta, Purple
Some of the benefits of the House System include:
Students across grade levels connect to provide support networks
Older students connect & invest in younger students (mentor role)
Younger students begin to connect with upper-grade staff members
Accountability for students is strengthened by seeking to “represent” one’s house in a positive light
Healthy competition leads to positive reinforcement for exemplary character
Teachers across grade levels/subjects connect with one another to form a stronger community
Teachers take on a “mentor” role for students outside their grade level or program
All East Elementary students will celebrate their successes with "House Rallies" every three weeks. The dates of these Rallies will be provided for you the first week of school.
The first Friday of the school year serves as our "Sliding Ceremony" day. Students who are new to East Elementary will spin a digital wheel to be randomly assigned their House. Those students who attended East last year are encouraged to come dressed in House colors for our first party of the year!
2019-2020 District Calendar Now Available
Paper copies of the LCISD calendar will also be available for pick up at Open House.
