Superintendent Community Update
January 8, 2021
Dear JUHSD Students and Families,
We are living through turbulent times and the violence we witnessed this week left many of us feeling shaken, angry, and uncertain about what might happen next. This is a lot to process while also managing the physical and mental challenges of COVID-19. In the face of all of this, the JUHSD wellness counselors have developed a toolbox for students, parents, and staff to easily access resources for stress management, food, housing, and work, and connections to completely confidential mental health services. You can access all of this through our wellness page, located here. I hope that these tools bring some relief to you and your family during these times.
Despite the unrest of this week, I believe that 2021 holds promise. I have great faith in our democracy and in our ability to come together as a community. I hope that this will be the beginning of a time of healing for our country.
I hope that you were able to enjoy some relaxing time over winter break. Now that school is back in session, I have several updates for you:
Teachers are finalizing grades this week for last semester. Final grades will be printed and mailed early next week. They will also be available through ParentVue.
The 2021-2022 school calendar is now available, Please use the following link to download and view it: 2021-2022 School Year Calendar.
As a reminder, JUHSD is transitioning email servers from Outlook to Google. While all email is forwarded to us from juhsd.net, please take this opportunity to update your address book and begin to email all JUHSD teachers and staff using @jeffersonunion.net instead of @juhsd.net.
Food Services continues to provide meals to all children under 18. Meals are provided each Tuesday for three days, and each Friday for four days from 1pm-3pm at all school sites. Learn more here.
COVID-19 Testing Information: Community COVID-19 testing is taking place across San Mateo County, and specifically at Jefferson High School and the District Office. You can register in advance or find a walk-up site for a free, painless test near you.
On Dec. 30, 2020, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a “Safe Schools for All” plan. You can view a summary of the plan here. In its current iteration, the plan does not impact high schools, as it is focused on TK-6.
Parents, please consider taking the ACCEL Career Education Survey about adult education. Your responses will help our Adult Education program best meet the needs of our community.
In closing, I want to applaud your continued resilience. I know how hard it is for students and parents to be in a continued state of distance learning. Students, I encourage you to turn your cameras on during class, connect with your peers, and continue doing the great work you have been doing. Parents, thank you for everything you are doing to support your students. Please remember that we are here to support you, and as always, my door is open.
Warmly,
Toni Presta
Superintendent
