Native American
Heritage Month
November is National Native American Heritage Month!
In 1990, President George H. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 "National American Indian Heritage Month." Congress chose November to honor the harvest season. This resolution recognized Native/Indigenous people of the United States as America's original inhabitants who made essential contributions to this nation's history. Every year, by presidential proclamation, the month of November is recognized as National Native American Heritage Month.
In West Hartford, we honor the rich culture, history, and traditions of Native Americans both in November and throughout our school year. Please explore the resources below to learn more about how we honor Native American Heritage Month in our elementary schools in November.
