Ascension Sunday: See the Stars, Find the Joy...
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus. The Feast of the Ascension is the fortieth day after Easter Sunday, which commemorates the Ascension of Christ into Heaven, according to Mark 16:19, Luke 24:51, and Acts 1:2. Today, we remember Jesus’ words to His disciples, “ I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.”
At mass this morning, Father Kris relayed the connection between the clarity of seeing the stars in the country as opposed to the city. When we look up to the sky in the country, without light pollution, we can see the bright stars with clarity. Often in our city, when we look towards the sky, the light pollution clouds our ability to see the stars clearly. Father Kris related this to our own faith journeys. What is getting in between our faith and our lives? Have we let the troubles of the world, our worries, our doubts cloud the hope and promise of God?
The ascended Jesus is our source of strength and hope. When the doubt creeps in and the burdens become heavy, may we remember that Jesus is fully present in our lives. By His ascension to Heaven, Jesus made it possible for the Holy Spirit to enter at all times and all places. The Holy Spirit can lift the veil, the cloudiness of any pollution, and be fully present with us. Jesus can take us to those country roads and help us see the brilliance of the stars so we can find the joy in every day.
“I find joy in every day, not because life is always good, but because God is.”
Blessings,
Mrs. Bonnie-Lynne Boehm, Principal
