5th Grade D.A.R.E. Program
Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th Grade Students,
The Strongsville City Schools along with the Strongsville Police Department will be working in collaboration to bring fifth and eighth-grade students the Drug Awareness through Research and Education (D.A.R.E.) program. It is an exciting and proactive program that teaches children essential life skills. Topics that will be covered include responsible decision making, health risks involving drugs, information on drugs, peer pressure, assertiveness, how to ask for help, problem-solving, as well as stress management. Furthermore, this program will provide your child with tools to promote good citizenship, problem-solving skills, and help them to make wise choices now and in the future. The lessons will take place once a month during your child’s special classes, i.e., physical education, music, and art.
Officer Aaron Pulte will be teaching the D.A.R.E. curriculum this year. He is new to the program, but has already met many of your children this year through school visits, lunchtime visits, and playing with students at recess. He is very excited about teaching and being a part of the Strongsville City Schools.
Sincerely,
The Strongsville City Schools Elementary Guidance Dept.

Kindergarten Parents
Since we were unable to have our traditional Kindergarten bus orientation this year, this handout is for you to reference. If you wish, you can print it out and make a book for your child.
Technology Options and Updates- Please read carefully.
Grades 1 & 2
Due to the continual shortage of Chromebooks, SCS IT can not provide every first and second-grade student with a device at this time. We are asking parents that If they have a suitable device (desktop, laptop, or Chromebook) at home that has access to the Chrome web browser available for their student, please consider opting to not take a district Chromebook. We are asking to have this form completed by Tuesday, October 28, 2020. This will allow us time to move inventory as needed.

Grades 3-5
As approved by the BOE last night, we can now offer the 1:1 Accidental Damage Protection Plan to our third-fifth grade students as their devices travel between home and school. It is a $30 fee. We are asking parents to complete this form by Friday, October 30, 2020.
Masks
Fall Parties
Families,
Halloween is exciting for many. The thought and planning that go into getting the perfect costume, the trick-or treating, the candy and so much more. As you know, we are unable to have Halloween Parties, but that does not mean we cannot have a little fun.
With so many things changing this year, and having to adapt to a new “normal”, we want to make sure we still have a little fun along the way. Students will be permitted to wear their costumes to school and we, as a school, will do some fun things (non-food related) while following all guidelines.
If your child decides they want to wear their costume to school, there will be some rules that they need to follow:
· Students are not permitted to wear their Halloween masks/makeup
· Costumes must be school appropriate
· Students will not be permitted to bring accessories for their costumes
· Students will still partake in the regular school day, attending lunch, recess, encores, etc. They will wear their costumes during this time.
· Students will be responsible for taking off and putting on their costumes when needed (ex: bath-rooming).
· Costumes will be worn all day. If you are worried about your child’s costume getting ruined you may want them to wear something different
· If your child does not want to wear his/her costume, they can wear a Halloween shirt, fall colors, etc.
Again, there will be no typical parties like we have had in the past. Teachers will still make an effort to make the day fun and recognize the day by having fall-themed activities and/or crafts.

‘Here Comes the Bus’ App
‘Here Comes the Bus’ App
Now Available for Strongsville City Schools Families
to Track Daily Transportation Information
Last year, Strongsville City Schools purchased and installed GPS on its entire fleet of buses and have now completed the testing of a new app for the District which will allow families to monitor daily transportation information. The Here Comes the Bus app is now available to families with students who utilize Strongsville City Schools transportation. The app and complementary website, available on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, or personal computer, enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus on its daily route. Additional highlights of Here Comes the Bus include:
- Notifications sent to a phone or computer (text messages and/or email) which alerts families when their bus is approaching the bus stop
- Notifications sent updating families on any daily bus number changes
- Customizable features for different devices, depending on how parents are viewing the app/website
“Being able to add GPS to our fleet of buses and offering the Here Comes the Bus app to the families in our District is a positive upgrade for transportation in our District. This app and website provides another layer of security for our students and families, while also leading to greater efficiencies for our bus drivers,” said Mr. Stephen Breckner, Operations Manager for Strongsville City Schools.
