Math- Top chefs have been exploring coins. We have been grouping, and sorting coins in many different ways. We also learned a new nickel poem...Nickel, nickel, thick and fat, worth five cents, I know that! Thank you for all the great empty food boxes for our up-coming Kindergarten class store. Please remember to bring in your bag with your coins labeled with your child's name on it.
Literacy Groups- We will be getting back into our routine next week. New sight words will be coming home and text copies for nightly reading review. Top chefs have been writing and illustrating stories, and working on sight word sentences. Students have been cutting and pasting sight word sentences. This allows an active learning approach, providing students with multiple hands-on opportunities to develop an array of essential literacy skills - from concepts about print to recognizing sight words and developing higher level comprehension skills.
Content- This 3 day week consisted of discussions about President's Day. Students wrote about what they would do "If they were president..". We discussed George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and learned how they grew up and became the first and sixteenth presidents. Top Chefs also participated in "Random Acts Of Kindness" week. We brainstormed ways we could be kind to friends at school, and throughout our community. We decorated postcards, and heart shaped cut outs with positive comments and pictures to be kind!!
