Welcome Back to School Fall 2021
We are so excited that we will be seeing you again in just a few days! The teachers have been hard at work this week preparing the classrooms and training to provide a safe and strong academic experience.
I apologize for the long newsletter, but I want to make sure that you have all the information.
First Day of School
Grades 2-5: Wednesday, September 1st
Grade 1: Friday, September 3rd
- First grade “ramp up”: September 1 or 2
- Students with last names beginning A-L are scheduled to attend their “ramp up” day on Wednesday, September 1, from 8:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Students with last names beginning M-Z are scheduled to attend their “ramp up” day on Thursday, September 2, from 8:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Kindergarten: Wednesday, September 8th
- Kindergarten “ramp up”: September 3 or 7
- Students with last names beginning A-L are scheduled to attend their “ramp up” day on Friday, September 3, from 8:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Students with last names beginning M-Z are scheduled to attend their “ramp up” day on Tuesday, September 7, from 8:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If you arrive after the tardy bell at 8:50 a.m., please walk to the main entrance on SE Raymond, ring the bell, and sign-in.
My.PPS will replace CLEVER portal in August 2021
PPS will be moving from Clever to using My.PPS (my.pps.net) as a district-wide portal. Some of the apps may be gone for awhile during the update. Students will be issued a new Quickcard (QR code) at the start of school. You will receive more information about logging in from your teacher after school starts.
Student Chromebooks (1st -5th grade)
Please bring the chromebook and cord that were used for distance learning back to school on the first day. The devices will be cleaned and updated. They may be needed for use in the classrooms.

Update your student’s information online through ParentVue: You can also find your student's teacher on ParentVue!
- Yearly Verification Reminder: each year parents/guardians are asked to review and update the information on file for their students. This information can be reviewed, edited and submitted online via PPS ParentVUE. Contact Melinda in the school office at 503-916-6363 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you need help activating your account.
Use the Daily Illness Self-Screening Checklist each day to check for symptoms of illness:
- Daily Illness Self-Screening Checklist: if a student has any of the symptoms on the list or COVID exposure, they should stay home and report their absence and symptoms to the school.

Safety Procedures :
staff and students are REQUIRED to wear a face mask at all times whether INSIDE or OUTSIDE during school hours.
Students are NOT required to wear a face mask when:
Eating or drinking and maintaining a minimum of 3 feet of distance.
Playing a musical instrument and maintaining a minimum of 3 feet of distance.
Daily Symptom Screening
Staff, student, or student families should call the school to report any illness or COVID-19 events.
Designated staff will follow the appropriate protocols for the Symptom Tracker Tool and/or COVID-19 Case Protocol for tracking and appropriate exclusion guidance from school nurse, nurse consultant, or building administrator.
All Facilities Operations staff should continue routine hand washing with soap and water to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Staff should continue to use FDA approved cleaning products found here and follow all product instructions on label. Staff are required to wear face coverings. The following cleaning and disinfecting tasks will be conducted after school hours by Custodians and are listed by room type.
Clean and disinfect sinks and drinking fountains
Refill and disinfect sanitizing dispensers
Disinfect and wipe down all frequently touched surfaces (Door knobs, light switches, drinking fountains)
Spot mop (Full mop weekly at a minimum)
Clean and disinfect desk tops (will need assistance from classroom staff throughout the day as required)
Classroom staff and students will use individual school supplies
Bathrooms are cleaned periodically throughout the day. Limited to 3 students in bathroom at a time, using every other stall.

Communication of Positive COVID Case
- Individual exclusion notification: The MESD Nurse Consultant will provide an official exclusion debrief by email to the principal for individuals with a confirmed or presumptive COVID-19 diagnosis or anyone who was determined to be in close contact with a confirmed or presumed positive COVID-19 case while onsite
- Exposed individuals exclusion notification: The MESD Nurse Consultant will provide an official exclusion letter to the principal to communicate with potentially exposed individuals to ensure exclusion guidance and return to work or school dates are provided.
- All staff, school-community and broader audience notification: The MESD nurse consultant will provide a formal notification letter to the principal to send to all school staff with the same message to the broader school community regarding a confirmed COVID-19 Case while onsite during their contagious period
On-site COVID-19 Symptomatic Testing
- This procedure allows the on-site testing of students and/or employees that have symptoms consistent with COVID-19. These tests should not be used for students or staff that are asymptomatic. Symptomatic students and staff cannot be brought back onsite for testing.
- Tests can only be used to test students with consent already on file, or staff who verbally agree to the test.
- COVID-19 Testing Consent Form must be collected prior to administering the tests either electronically or have a hard copy on file.
Students will sit in small groups with distance between mats
In case of bad weather, students will eat on mats in the following areas
Masks worn all the time over mouth and nose
Mask break only on hills during recess with distance or one on one with a masked adult outdoors.
Masks can be off for active eating during lunch outside.
- 4th and 2nd under covered areas on playground
- 1st and 3rd in the gym
- K and 5th in the cafeteria
ALL PPS STUDENTS EAT FOR FREE IN 2021-22
All PPS students eat FREE. This school year, all students in all schools have access to free breakfast and free lunch each school day. This was made possible by a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Program waiver for the 2021-22 school year.
Families in non-CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) schools may still complete meal applications for free/reduced price meals in order to be eligible for other benefits such as fee waivers/reductions in other programs. Click here for a current list of CEP schools.

Rental Assistance for families

There are many programs available and 2-1-1 can provide information and referrals. You may also contact your school counselor or social worker if you need more information or resources.

Oregon’s Eviction Moratorium ended on June 30, 2021. We want to share with you some important dates and resources available to your family.
Renters are required to pay current month’s rent (July 2021 to current month)
Renters have until February 28, 2022 to pay overdue rent (April 2020 - June 2021)
Provide proof of application for rental assistance to your landlord to avoid eviction for 90 days while you wait for the rental assistance (Multnomah County).

PANDEMIC EBT INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES
Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits are additional funds that can be used to support family food purchases. P-EBT benefits were approved for Oregon in May for the 2020-21 school year. P-EBT benefits issuance began at the end of July and will continue to be distributed into August and September for all families enrolled in a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school or with individual family eligibility for free or reduced price meals in the 2020-21 school year. Families inquiring about student eligibility, or have other P-EBT questions, can use the following Oregon 211 Info services:
