How to help students show "ROAR" during Virtual Learning and Preparing to Return to the classroom!
Respect, Ownership, Acceptance, and Responsibility
At North Chatham, we promote and celebrate student behavior and expectations for all students through ROAR!
ROAR stands for Respect, Ownership, Acceptance, and Responsibility
Students are explicitly taught what each of these characteristics/behaviors looks like and sounds like in all areas of the school! By helping students learn how to show these in our school, everyone at NCE can support students become lifelong learners in the classroom and during remote virtual learning!
HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF WHAT STUDENTS ARE SHOWN ABOUT WHAT EACH OF THESE WORDS MEAN.
Students then apply the meaning of each word daily in their classrooms with their teacher and with a specific activity I do with them during my Counselor Time in their classrooms.
What does that look like/sound like?
- Eyes: looking at the speaker in Zoom
- Using kind words: please, thank you, you're welcome
- Helping others
What does that look like/sound like?
- Asking: What did you learn today?
- Helping students connect their effort and work with the positive or negative consequence that happens.

Responsibility during Virtual Learning!
Take a look at the table below and share with your student on how they can show responsibility during virtual learning at home! These also apply in person within the classroom!
